What's great about it: Very easy to use for both Federal & State
What's not so great: Had to upgrade to Turbo Tax Premier to get Automated investment features (I used Delux edition in past years)

Great software for tax preparation

If you prepare your own taxes, there is no need to remember (or keep up with) the tax law changes. TurboTax does this for you. I doubt whether a tax professional would cover all the topics that the Easystep interview does. It is extremely thorough!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is easy to navigate and covers any tax situation you may encounter.
What's not so great: The Deluxe version used to handle Schedule D, but now you need the Premier version. It is getting more expensive.

Anything that makes divorce easier

When married, my husband used turbo tax, but I had not used it myself and here I was the first year out from divorce, with more complications than ever (sale of stock, refi of mortgage, alimony, job only part of the year, shared custody of kids) and me trying to figure it out. Turbo tax was so nice that it did each thing one step at a time so you didn't feel like you had to understand everything at once. I just worked on each step until it made sense, and if I got frustrated or needed to find info, I would flag that page and move on to what I could do and come back to the flagged parts later. I found it very comforting. My only hold-up was that I needed a copy of the taxes from the last year to e-file because I needed the previous year's AGI (adjusted gross income) to verify my identity to the IRS.
What's great about it: One step at a time
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Once again, a great program for a retired couple to use. I will use this program from now on and look forward to see how it handles RMD's.

'PREMIER' WAS RECOMMENDED, BUT I DIDN'T ACTUALLY NEED IT.
I HAVE BEEN USING TURBO TAX FOR OVER FIFTEEN YEARS. IT TAKES ALL OF THE WORK OUT OF DOING TAXES. I LIKE IT.
IN THE STATE, I HAD TROUBLE RE-FINDING FOR REVIEW QUESTIONS THAT I HAD ALREADY ANSWERED; i.e. 529 MATERIAL.

GREAT SUPPORT TEAM

Had an issue entering data from a W2 that prevented filing electronically. Called the support team and talked to Betty. She guided me through an alternative method of entering my tax withholding that allowed me to file electronically. Thanks a bunch!!
