Always a good experience but spendy for me

I've been using TurboTax for many years, decades really. It's a good product and it's turned filing from a couple of days, to about an hour. I download the software, because I don't want to do it on-line. However, it costs me about $30 more, which is complaint number one. Complaint number two is that I need the Premier version for mutual fund dividends and selling shares. I wish this was in the Deluxe version.
What's great about it: Downloading last years info saves a lot of time
What's not so great: Need Premier for mutual funds

Cheap Trick
on February 15, 2016

Your marketing pages all lead us to believe that by purchasing this year's tax program we will get one free state, leading us to assume that the filing will be free. It's a very cheap trick to stick us with the cost at the end of the process. And I'm not the only one saying this because I saw other comments on your site and others. This might cause me to go back to TaxAct
What's great about it: Great tax software
What's not so great: State Filing not Free

Not an easy year

MISC, than walking the taxpayer thru schedules E and SE, an image of the form is seen, in small print, when completing the return. The schedule E was easier to complete last year when I only needed the deluxe edition to complete it. This year after paying more for the premier, it was more difficult.
What's great about it: Ease of use on common forms
What's not so great: Difficulty filling in Schedule E and Schedule SE

Finally done

My corporation issued K1. Put in this info, my taxes zoomed up to 32,000 for Federal. Was about to go hire someone, but then looked K1 on the internet from the IRS, and found that we didn't have to report this unless there was an O in box 13. There wasn't , so didn't have to do that. Taxes came down. Hard to figure out where to put pensions as income, but rolled over to another IRA. I also have other income as an author. Turbo tax wanted to charge me 9,000 in taxes for being self employed. After working on this for several weeks, finally figured out how to enter this information. Very difficult.
What's great about it: Cheeper than an accountant
What's not so great: Was hard to incorporate an incorporation,(K1), my husbands retirement this year, and being an author.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Watch out for SARs
on February 15, 2016

Used TurboTax for quite a few years. Always happy with it. This tear had a special event with a company merger and payout of Stock Appreciation Rights (SARs). Should be straight forward regular income but if employer doesn't include in your W2 no real provisions in Turbo Tax for SARs. They are like a stock sale or option sale but not quite and you end up having to fake it out to get it included. Just how IRS accepts
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: No explicit help for SARs
Pros: I bought or sold investments

When I file my federal income tax return using TurboTax, I fell confident that the return is completed correctly and all calculations are right.
What's great about it: Walked me through the filing step by step
What's not so great: None.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
