Schedule K1
on October 16, 2016

I am the trustee of my mother's trust an use Turbo tax business to file and generate the schedule K1 form.
When I file the my personal taxes using the Premier version of Turbo tax and start entering data from the schedule K1 form. I am asked questions not supplied on the K1.
What's great about it: Business version prints K1
What's not so great: Personal version asks question not provided by Business version

Missing Forms and Other Adventures

My IL state return did not have the US1040 attached as it should have been. Lucky I caught it otherwise they would have disallowed an adjusted and charged for an underpayment.
You have to do gymnastics way too much to figure out where the core entry should be make on several schedule. An data source is useful or not even available half the time.
There is no list of attachments to send with your returns such as when you provide details of many stock transactions instead of entering each one.
Finally, does not include all of the requirements up front to file electronically. As a result I paid for a state return that was rejected and filed manually.
What's great about it: It does what I can't do on my own
What's not so great: Cannot trust printed return has all attachments, need to do gymnastics to enter information, no list of attachments
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Program doesn't carry forth ALL losses from previous years. It always asks me if I have any losses, such as from passive activities, something I would have no clue as to how to determine on my own.

This has been my 10 + year filing with Turbo Tax and it's so much easier than expected. My issue is I always delay starting the tax process and end up filing on October 15th of each year. As a procrastinator I'm grateful to have a product like Turbo Tax where it's relatively painless to upload your tax data, review and transmit the federal and state returns online.
What's great about it: Easy to file return online
What's not so great: Not as easy to navigate to worksheets
