I will not use state form again, 2 years in a row it was wrong, I had to pay more in, and a penalty.

Ok for personal Beware!!! for business

I happened to do a detailed review of the forms being submitted instead of just relying on Turbo Tax "step by step" method. I found a major error that was costing me thousand of dollars. I reviewed this numerous time using the "step by step" method, because I couldn't believe I was so far off on my estimated tax payments. The info shown on the 1040 form was different then what was shown in the "step by step" method.
I have used Turbo Tax for many years, this is the first time I have found such a misleading costly error.
What's great about it: handles a lot of the unearned income hokey pokey well
What's not so great: major error caused in Schedule C filing

make clear what job vs. business expenses are

1. I found that I was answering job expenses questions as if they related to business matters. It should be made clearer that the questions about job expenses have nothing to do with business expenses. It became confusing when I was asked essentially the same set of questions later in the Business section.
2. When the software indicates there is a deduction, but doesn't explain what it is, that erodes trust in the software. There should be an explanation link with an explanation if the user wants to find out why Turbotax generated a deduction which is not obvious to the user (e.g., not business expenses, not exemptions).
3. I used the Home and Business software. When I called with questions, the person answering couldn't answer either of them. He gave me a case number and transferred me to a Turbotax expert. I was on hold for 50 minutes! When the expert got on the phone line, he asked if I had been given a case number. I said yes and gave it to him. He said "thanks" because no case number (and no information about my issues) had been provided to him before he got on the phone with me. Why was that?
What's great about it: embedded knowledge of tax laws
What's not so great: need options to get explanations

Makes a difficult task easier

I have a small business. This helps me to think of all legal deductions and gives me the assurance that I am fairly and honestly completing my taxes.
Until we move to a flat tax (LOL) I will always use Turbotax.

I have been using this software for quite a few years. I have not had any trouble filling out the tax information. The help information all ways lets me get the correct information for the
item I have questions about so I can move on to the new topic.
