Easy to use and thorough!
on October 17, 2016

Easy to use. Thorough; asks (and answers) all the questions. Took a lot less time than I expected, and appeared to cover all the (very complex at times) tax questions!
What's great about it: Easy to use. Thorough; asks (and answers) all the questions.
What's not so great: none that I could find

Long-term Turbo Tax users
on October 17, 2016

We filed for an extension in April, and it was somewhat tricky for me six months later to find where I left off to complete the returns. In that process I answered a question about a loss carryover when TurboTax already had entered it for me. When I couldn't delete the duplicate entry on my own, I called and received help from a fabulous support person who worked with me for quite a while until she found it so I could delete it.
What's great about it: Awesome customer support
What's not so great: None

Forth rental home asset portion looks wrong
on October 17, 2016
Posted by: Oleeshop
1. I have 4 rental homes. I own only portion of it and the 4th home deduction seems to be wrong. I change to 100% or 25%, the amount of deduction looks exactly the same. Which is not consistence to first 3 homes.
2. too many clicks to get to edit myself.
The icon is click move the different location each time. When I try to get somewhere, there are tons of clicks I have to make, and it moves all over the place. You should keep it at the same place each time for "continue", and let people go to those "edit myself page" faster. E.g. I have to make many clicks to go to rental home and edit the supply amount. Same questions which were selected previously should stay the same, it reset 20% of the time to something else. make me have to read each time when I click.
What's not so great: 1. calculations looks wrong, and 2. too many clicks to get to a page

Caused me pain
on October 17, 2016
Posted by: RonKnight
Turbotax turned off the ability to import my 1099 data from my brokerage accounts on 10/15/2016 but my return wasn't due until 10/17/2016. This caused me HOURS of work manually entering this data. This feature is one of the main reasons why I use TurboTax in the first place!
What's great about it: Easy to navigate
What's not so great: Turned off import feature before tax filing deadline

Turbo Tax worth every penny
on October 17, 2016

Turbotax is easy to use. I like being able to switch between forms and step by step. If you have an idea of what taxes are about and generally what goes where you can really move quickly using turbo tax. I've used it for 20 years. Worth every penny
What's great about it: Easy to follow and comprehensive
What's not so great: No real issues

Don't know what I'd do without TurboTax
on October 17, 2016

I'm not going to pay for an accountant to do my taxes when I still have to do the same amount of document gathering and addition for TurboTax and I can start and stop working on it.
What's great about it: Makes a complicated process simple
What's not so great: Taxes are still complicated

Time to Catch-up with Windows 10
on October 17, 2016
Posted by: soccerdog
I have used Turbo Tax for over 5 years. I have more knowledge about taxes than most users, otherwise I would not recommend it for people with complicated tax situations. Still, it is quite thorough, a good place to organize my tax information, it is fairly easy to pick-up after a time away, and fairly straightforward. My returns require adding supplemental information, which I can do (without e-filing) by using Acrobat software. I wish there was a means to do this within the program. Finally, isn't it time that TurboTax catches up with Windows 10 and touchscreen capabilities?
What's great about it: Thorough, Organized, Easy to pick up where left off, Fairly Straightforward
What's not so great: Inability to include Supplemental Information, Not touch screen friendly
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Survived my financial flashback
on October 17, 2016
Posted by: mikecablecreek
Flowing nicer every year... except please start with the basic w-2 income first instead of jumping right into the business income and expenses. For a while, the refund/taxes due box at the top of the screen stayed right at zero- all the while I was entering important information that should have been registering a plus or minus. Finally it all came together when the software asked for my w-2 info and the previous info became relevant...
What's great about it: detailed guidance
What's not so great: final review...fixing mistakes not very detailed
