Great at simple returns, struggles with Schedule D

Have been happy using this software for over 15 yrs with simpler returns, but last time was really hard. I had to find a third party solution to import back into Turbotax just to get around the limitation on handling investment transactions with Schedule D and form 8949. Took over 20 hours to find and complete just that part. This was so time consuming, had me wondering if I would ever use the program again. On the other hand, this program does very well with basic returns, editing forms manually if you need to, handling partnership entries for K-1 forms. If they could fix the investment transaction limit, this product could be a full solutution.
What's great about it: Handles K-1, deductions easily
What's not so great: Limit on investment transactions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Disappointed

I had about $3 in interest. Your summary showed $13,000+ in interest and previous year was incorrect as well. We don't know why.
Last year we had a $13000+ refund . . . this year after paying $10,000 we owed $1500± We don't know if the software is calculating correctly because
What's great about it: I can fill in
What's not so great: Not all forms are available i.e 1065 & calculations are wrong

I'll never use this again for a business
on October 16, 2016

Been a TT user for over 10 years. I will never open another business and use this program. I am also totally frustrated with using TT to figure out the proper way to file when disposing of a publicly traded partnership (PTP) Masters Limited Partnership (MLP).
Without the help of TT customer phone help, the program would have easily double filed income on the MLP sale. Every year we ask TT to update this portion and it never happens. I spent 10+ hours figuring out how to file a sale. And there is never a single person who I can see that does it the same everytime. What a mess!!!!
And then trying to recapture Section 179 assets when you close a business. It should do this in the interview process when you tell that you closed your business. But no, you have to go through 4 diffierent complex worksheets to back determine the depreciation recapture. This could have saved me and your tax advisor/ EA around 4 hours of work.
What's great about it: All personal items and the help of great tax pros
What's not so great: Business assets recaputre and MLP K-1's

Amazing help!

Ok, so the "con" I just listed is actually maybe THE best "pro" about TurboTax. I went thru a very traumatic divorce, this last year, leaving me in a bad state, both emotionally and financially. I have used TurboTax for years, but wasn't sure I could use it this year, as my taxes were going to be very complicated... with the divorce, sale of my house, etc, etc. I felt VERY overwhelmed with it all and was very discouraged. I was able to find the number to call, for "human" tax help, and, let me tell you, it was like a miracle... as I not only got the help I needed, but the people who helped me were SO compassionate and caring. Actually makes me tear up thinking about it. Richard even said to me, "I'm very glad to help you... and I am so sorry that you had such a bad year." He went way beyond my questions and made sure my taxes looked ok. I couldn't believe it. After hanging up, I cried, as the weight of completing my taxes had been lifted off my weary shoulders. I had to call in one more time, but this time I got someone different. think her name was Kim. Anyway, she was also incredibly helpful and caring. Amazing. So, this is why the "con" actually became the BEST thing ever, as I had to call for help... and TurboTax provided me with the help I needed, with a real, live, caring human beings. Words cannot begin to express my gratitude, as I didn't have the money to hire someone to prepare my taxes for me. To say that I am a loyal TurboTax user would now be a huge understatement. Heart felt thanks to the TurboTax team... from someone who is so very, very, very grateful.
What's great about it: Saved me ALLOT of money!!!
What's not so great: Couldn't have done it without direct, "human" help from TurboTax.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

New to rental properties
on October 17, 2016

I acquired multiple rental properties this year. This is my first year investing in rental properties. I had to input a lot of data into Turbo tax through the workflow tools. In many cases I might have to click through a dozen questions/screens to get to the value I wanted to see. There should be some navigation mechanism to go right to the step in the workflow that I want to edit. If it had better navigation for entering the rental info I would give it 5 stars.
What's great about it: clear info on what to do
What's not so great: Too many clicks to get around entering new rental property info
Pros: I bought or sold investments
