Late filer breeze

I haven't had any problem(s) using turbotax. I recommend it to all my family and friends..

an inflexible program

I could not override Form 4797 and the program placed the loss on the incorrect line.
Also the past three years I have been audited by MA and fined for incorrectly taking mileage for my business; TurboTax completed the return. Also, last year the IRS did not receive ANY of the forms accompanying my 1040 when I sent them electronically..

What's great about it: As long as you don't have anything complicated it's fine
What's not so great: Can't override or edit a form; I find it incorrect often

E ze Tax wit Turbo Tax

Could you create a cheat sheet - sheet with all the deductions in each expense catagory bullitized, so we can collect data throughout the year and be ready to add them up and put answers in the boxes.
What's great about it: Leads you through the tax maze
What's not so great: More detailed than what I want but worth the trip.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great Federal Software! But States just OK...

Love the federal software, from 1040's to Employer W-2 preparation. Step by Step entry on Federal return is very helpful and easy to use. Even with Partnership K-1 data entry. Been using Turbo Tax for at least 15 years!
However, I have recently been having to personally file in multiple states (17 !!) due to partnerships that operate in a lot of different states. My comment here is that the state data entry screens on Turbo Tax are very confusing and inconsistent from state to state. Especially if you have Partnership K-1 data to enter. My suggestion and hope is that Turbo Tax would ask you to enter K-1 data in the exact format as State K-1's and then process that data accordingly, instead of painstakingly having to figure out what goes where and in several cases having to override the amounts on the state forms since there is no clear way to enter the data. The Only state that I have found so far to have that exact State K-1 data entry screen on Turbo Tax is Illinois. It would be great if all the rest of the state software would follow suit.
Anyway, that's my gripe. I know that most people don't have to file in more than one or two states, or even have State K-1 data to enter, but it sure would be a lot easier for those of us who do, to have some consistency from state to state. Shouldn't be that hard, especially since the price of the state software and efile is now about the same as the whole federal return software cost. Help!

OMG TurboTax saved us several thousand dollars

I hate U.S. taxes. But I've used TurboTax since before Intuit owned it. And, frankly, I don't know how I'd function without it. Probably would pay a CPA several thousand dollars. If you're not using TurboTax and your tax situation is at all complicated, start now.
What's great about it: Incredible attention to detail.
What's not so great: Every year the U.S. tax code makes filing more painful.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Good Refund

TurboTax is great and able to manage all of the required schedules and worksheets
What's great about it: completed input and filing in one week. Able to efile both Fed and State forms.
What's not so great: Cost to efile with the State of Hawaii
Pros: I bought or sold investments
