Good and helpful software that could be improved
on October 4, 2016

I'm thankful that this saved me a lot of reading IRS and State instructions this year.
When entering sale data on an item using an averaged % for business which was different than this year's % used for depreciation, I had to finagle the program, messing with the numbers till they gave the correct gain/loss. Please add the up front functionality into the inquiry, or additional worksheet entry fields to accomplish this.
I also would appreciate more help prompts to understand a number of questions the inquiry forms are asking.
Overall a very good program with the exception of some locking-in limits.
What's great about it: Helped me find deductions and credits. Reduced a lot of time reading tax laws.
What's not so great: Tries to lock in a specific method, which may not be accurate to the situation. Work around can be difficult.

Line 7 of form 4868 would not transfer to form 1040. I found the print instructions confusing and I could not save my files to the location I wanted. Other than that everything worked just fine, thank you.

Delayed 2015 tax returns on extension
on October 4, 2016
Posted by: jondjensen
Compared to many prior "turbo tax" confident years from 2011 to 2014, The current 2015 federal and corporate tax returns were both on extension and several categories were slow, to verify, comprehend and significantly difficult to observe and calculate in reasonable time to correct or modify transactions.
Thus I remained frustrated from more than several attempts to recalculate and correct items. Finalizing time was excessive before the filings were transmitted.
What's great about it: Clear and accurate as to either federal or state extended items
What's not so great: Several mistakes of delay on unclear items required to progress
Pros: I moved

Pretty good but the forms hide some info
on October 4, 2016

Pretty good However two issues 1. I should be able to enter the summary totals from the 1099B and then when I have entered my details the program should compare them providing a double check that I got everything 2. I want a better way of dealing with info that is repetitive such as multiple broker transactions on the same sale where their are multiple purchase dates (often from dividend) but one sale date. I should be able to indicate I have one of those sales and only enter the changing data. Doing these sorts of sales and I have many is the worst part of doing my taxes and Turbo Tax could make it easier when I can't import data from the brokers system 3. I really want to be able to see summaries of the details of schedules especially C's D's and K's as well as Royalty and Rents - after I enter the data. The Easy Step only shows how I entered the data and I want see how it looks without having to look at the forms. However Turbo Tax is still pretty good.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to use
What's not so great: The forms for investment income could deal with repetitive info better hard to see summaries
Pros: I bought or sold investments
