Takes the taxing out of taxes

I have used Turbotax for years and it keeps getting better. The ability to download my accounts from several brokerages so much better than entering the hundreds of trades manually. Also, the math is always handled correctly, and entered into all the appropriate forms.
What's great about it: Simply fill in the answers to relatively easy questions
What's not so great: There are some tax questions that do remain complicated
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Always great

My wife kept finding receipts for biz expenses even though I'd moved on to other sections, and it seemed hard to navigate back to, say, Supplies so I could enter those things. If there's a quicker way to navigate back to a specific form I don't know it. Also, I was a bit frustrated with the way I need to enter Utilities for the rental of the apartment in our home. We allocate 20% of all utilities for the apartment, and that mostly works great, but when you have an apartment in your home our city water utility requires you to have 2 separate, flat-rate water accounts of equal value. So to make that work in TT I had to divide our total water bill in half and then multiply that by 5 to get the actual apartment expense. But these are minor things. Overall I love TT.
What's great about it: Easy to use as ever, helpful Q&A, like that my concerns generally are anticipated.
What's not so great: Feel like navigating is still a bit harder than it needs to be.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Extremely dissatisfied!

Very dissatisfied from the previous years to this year. Previous years I had always used Deluxe. This year had to buy Home & Business, and it had not carried everything forward like previous years. It cost more & was harder to use. Could not go from one form to another with out 'back', 'back' back, all the way. Could not scroll down to add another form as needed. Will definitely look at a different program for 2016 taxes. The much higher price and the difficulty to use 2015 sure leaves a lot to be desired! My overall rating was extremely poor! but you didn't have a " -Star"!
What's great about it: automatically filled in additional forms where needed to go
What's not so great: took about 2 hours hunting to locate Form 4136 without it saying I could not use it.

Turbo(Not So Much) ...Taxing(Definitely)

I have been using TurboTax (TT) Home & Business since Tax Year 2011. I struggled with tax returns for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015. I have asked for an extension each year because TT is confusing. A nightmare, really!
I kept hoping TT would improve. Never happened! I'm not really a numbers person and I don't understand IRS tax forms. But, hey! -- I think I am TT's demographic. TT is not really designed for accountants or CPAs or for taxpayers with complicated financial lives. Yet TT leaves out so much that the average person (me!) does not know to look for.
If TT asks a question that leaves the taxpayer confused or for which the taxpayer does not have an answer that fits, then why doesn't TT direct the taxpayer to the correct form or schedule, including correct line number(s) or line number(s) to consider, running in the background?
The most recent TurboTax for Windows for Dummies that I can find was published in 1995. I usually get a "...for Dummies" book for any new software I am using. But, 1995 is too old. Way too old!
I am a technical writer and it is clear to me that TurboTax has been totally deficient in making TT easy to understand and to use. It appears that TurboTax has done it on the cheap, using in-house tax professionals and tax software designers.
The problem with using in-house tax professionals and tax software designers to write content is that they know too much. They skip over some critical steps, explanations and choices that seem perfectly obvious to them. Not so obvious to the rest of us, though!
As a technical writer, I would love to use my skills and hard-won, non-professional knowledge of TT to take a crack at writing a help manual or Dummies book for TurboTax. Right now, TT is next-to-useless for the Dummies among us.
What's great about it: Prepared on my computer in my home
What's not so great: Confusing questions; too selective about items to go on forms, schedules & worksheets

This years Home and Business product was no where as comprehensive or functional as previous years. I don't know if I'll have questions from the IRS as the autofilled amounts in previous years seem to have errors I had to correct this year.
What's great about it: Cheaper than a accountant
What's not so great: Functionality worse than previous years

Once used, this tax program is a comfortable way to prepare a tax return. I have used this program for years and it is consistently current and I have yet to find an obvious bug.
What's great about it: Easy to use, straightforward, understandable
What's not so great: Takes time to get used to the program initially

The application works perfectly. I would however, like to have my prior returns booted up so I can check what I have done before while working on the new return.
What's great about it: Easy to do.
What's not so great: Extra charge for state form email
Pros: I bought or sold investments
