My 2016 Taxes!

Ran into some difficulty in interpreting what the program wanted during the review. I wound up guessing hoping I did it right. I know that Turbo Tax is looking out for security but the final steps were brutal ... but I got through it except it's taking forever coming up with an unused nickname.
What's great about it: Easier than the old paper forms.
What's not so great: Requires more computer tech savy than before.

It's a good program in general in my case. Pleasant experience using this yr. 2015 edition.
What's great about it: easy to use. a program with details.
What's not so great: after federal filing extension was done, the program did not bring up state's extension form.

I was disappointed that I could not access all the forms I need to file my return. This is a review and it is stupid that I have to create a stupid nickname.
What's great about it: new forms
What's not so great: can't find new forms

I have been using TURBO tax since 1999. It has provided me everything I needed over the years and events in my life.
I would recommend to everyone.
I have yet to meet a situation it cannot handle.
What's great about it: TurbiTax have all answers and the why of things
What's not so great: It does not ask questions when you forget some deductions

Better handling of PTP adjustments
on September 19, 2016
Posted by: frustrated4797
Form 1009B imported from brokers with stock and PTP basis and sales information does not reflect the basis adjustments that come on K-1s for PTPs. Nor does the Turbo Tax K-1 worksheet handle the basis adjustments (in K-1s) required to be made on sale of a PTP interest as well as it should. The result is that adjustments in the 8949 and 4797 forms have to be made manually and 8949 is mechanically hard to use (because of the very small print and slow scrolling in the form for many entries), especially if the there are many entries for several PTP sales. Without these adjustments, ordinary gain to be reported on 4797 and capital gain on 8949 and Sch D would double up the total income to be reported, and if there are PTP unit sales at losses, there should be no OI or CG. Try working through the forms with gain and loss sales of various PTP units and the broker 1099B with the Turbo Tax K-1 provided adjustments and you will see how complicated and difficult it is to make the Turbo Tax formatting handle the proper reporting
If this interplay of the 3 forms could be streamlined and made easier to use it would be a great improvement.
What's great about it: Most everything
What's not so great: Interplay of 1099B (no basis reported to IRS) with PTP K-1s and reporting on 8949, Sch D and 4797
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great Help this year with debt forgiveness frm 982
on September 19, 2016
Posted by: tcarrNJ
I have used Turbo tax for over twenty years and it has never let me down. This year I had to deal with a form 1099-C for debt forgiveness and I thought this might be too much to ask but Turbo Tax came through again.
Every year I recommend it to everyone I know.
What's not so great: I do returns for my family and I wish it let me file more than five returns electronically
