Functional and Detailed

Generally this system works well. I think they could save a lot of people time by circumventing more of the much rarer circumstances unless a user knows or indicates they need it.
My major problem this year was in uploading tax files from my investment profiles. My uploaded files indicated a N/A for length an asset was held (because they were held for both short and long term, or because they were bought at two or more times before being sold) and more than one modifier. The turbo tax system was less sophisticated in it's ability to receive inputs, and I had to manually fix hundreds of these line item entries with the pleasure of looking at a spinning wheel for 3-6 seconds each time as the computer labored at every mouse click and field update. It took hours to get through this, and that's the main reason I am giving a 3 star review.
What's great about it: Thorough, Sequential
What's not so great: Not well integrated with all 1099 int/div forms

turbotax home and business 2015

Don't like the new interview format. Separate personal income from expenses, same for business. Had a problem with a schedule K-1. Error check told me I had to use separate K=1 forms to report some income but didn't tell how to get there or what to do. Most exasperating.
What's great about it: Like the concept of the interview portion
What's not so great: Previous years it was much easier to switch between forms and interview
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Major Screw up in Turbo Tax
on September 5, 2016
Posted by: Gary123djgut
I have a part time Cattle Ranch last year was the first year. When doing taxes TurboTax asked if I had farm income, I answered no since I only had expenses. TurboTax set me up in a schedule C. This year I had to move my equipment to a Schedule F and it was a major pain. I hope I did it right.
What's great about it: Usually has worked well
What's not so great: Screw up last year caused big issues this year

Not as good as in the past
on September 5, 2016

The program easily transferred information from my prior year tax return but when I went in to add a new business it was very difficult to find that area. Turbotax in past years was always very easy to use. The 2015 version was a little bit of a challenge.
What's not so great: Not as easy to navigate through as in past years

use Turbo Tax every year

I have used turbo tax for about 10 years or so. I have complex issues--several rental properties, limited partnerships, brokerage accounts, self employment income, etc. I'm pleased that there is an advanced enough package to accommodate my situation. Only complaints have to do with ease of navigation. Often, when you wish to visit one subject again, you are forced to go through the entire step-by-step tutorial relating to that item. Not crazy about the "help" section either--it refers you to online "chats" from other users. However, I have no plans to change--just hope for improvements for future versions.
What's great about it: Easy, step by step methodology; auto imports all of your bank and brokerage transactions
What's not so great: difficult to handle certain items, such as K1's, and choosing to apply refund to next year tax payment
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved

I have been using TurboTax to complete my taxes for more than twenty years. It has always been reliable, and easy to understand. It takes the mystery away from the tax filing process, and I have used it for both personal tax filing and for business tax filing. Bravo!
What's great about it: Detailed explanations. Lots of Support. Good research.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Keep up the good work --- but you need to not keep asking for information about Tennessee cause they don't have a State Income tax.
What's great about it: Good
What's not so great: None
