State Software and Costs Need Improvement

Federal software is very good and has lots of help and explanations. However, we had to file in multiple states. The cost adds up because there is a fee to not only efile in each state but to access the forms for more than one state. Ended up spending just as much for EACH additional state than I did for the initial software. Plus very limited help and explanations within the state software. Had to go to state income tax websites to get questions answered.
What's great about it: overall good
What's not so great: state help limited and gets expensive with multiple states
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used Turbo Tax since it's inception

I began using Turbo Tax as soon as it came out. I did multiple returns by hand prior to that. It was SO much better than that. The good news is it keeps up the with changing tax laws so we don't have to do that. I think it helps to have a basic knowledge of tax preparation but is truly not necessary. I have always done my daughter's tax return until this year. She wanted to learn how. Although it took her considerable longer than it would have me, she understood and finished her own tax return.
What's great about it: Great Explanations of special tax situations
What's not so great: Not enough help on the State level
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

ALWAYS WORKS GREAT!

We have used Turbo Tax for many years and have encouraged friends and family to do the same. I have never personally heard any negative comments.
What's great about it: We always have an accurate and easily accessible way to look at our taxes year to year.
What's not so great: None.

got a refund even though I started a business!

Used Turbo Tax for several years now... at times, I've gone to a "pro" to see if they come up with anything different, and TT is always spot on!
What's great about it: Walked me through everything and the "learn more" sections were extremely helpful!
What's not so great: It didn't make me like doing my taxes... but then again, who does?

Easy to use for complicated business & investments

Very easy to use! Walks me through even complicated investments step by step so I don't miss anything! Also like that they offer audit defense (for a price, of course).
What's great about it: Step by step easy questions for complicated topics like investment stocks and rental property
What's not so great: Had to look up what some of the forms were that printed with my return.
