E Filing did not work well
on May 3, 2016

Turbo Tax completed my return well but they did not alert me of the issue of whether I could claim my 22 year old daughter as a dependent. She made $10,000 but I paid over half her expenses as a college senior so I was unclear of whether she could be a dependent. Turbo Tax did not raise this issue.
The E filing was done poorly. Turbo Tax said my filing was successful but my pin number did not match the IRS number so both my federal and state returns were rejected. The IRS phone service and the website were unable to give me a new number. I was forced to use my 2014 Adjusted income. I still don't know if my resubmitted returns will be accepted. I am late as a result of this mistake.
What's great about it: Return was done well
What's not so great: The issue of whether I could claim my 22 year old college senior as a dependent was not clarified well

I have two rental properties that were fully depreciated under Federal guidelines using the ACRS method in 2006. However CA did not allow me to use ACRS, so I used the 125DB method. During the period 2007 to 2013, TurboTax lost track of these properties regarding depreciation in CA. I finally took the entire remaining depreciation in 2014 and 2015. It would be nice to fix that aspect of TurboTax.

The instructions for mailing the state return for Oklahoma did not
include sending a copy of the Federal Return, which it should have. This oversight caused a significant delay in receiving the
refund from Oklahoma.
What's great about it: Used TT for years, always with good results
What's not so great: First time finding an error in the instructions

Not getting better

Ten-Year Plus TurboTax user.
The Estimated flag lets you sketch out a full return quickly by ballparking numbers and then going back later to ensure you've corrected them all or looked up things you needed to look up. In final review, you USED TO be able to review all estimated items, that feature has been removed, and reduces the usefulness of TurboTax to me significantly.
An oddball item (money removed from HSA before April 15th) somehow got a number in it. Despite several attempts at zeroing it out, saving, saving with a new name, etc. The number would re-appear when the program was restarted, fouling all the calculations until it was re-zeroed. If TurboTax can't save THIS value correctly, how confident do you feel about it saving all the rest? Me, neither.
What's great about it: Seems to work
What's not so great: Estimated flag is useless; some info un-erasable

Indispensable

I started using this program when it was Macintax back in the 1990's. Before that I used the paper forms and had to do the arithmetic myself. The original switch to Macintax revolutionized doing taxes. Now I could step back and look at the big picture. The program has just gotten better and better. I am an attorney and took tax in law school, but my practice is in another area so I do my own taxes but I don't keep up with tax law. With Turbotax I feel confident that the program keeps up with the latest developments and lets me file with confidence.
What's great about it: Everything I needed
What's not so great: Could always use more help
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

It was a little difficult to figure out where to deduct broker advisory fees. I wish there was a prompt for that.
What's great about it: Easy guide to follow
What's not so great: Not much
Pros: I bought or sold investments
