Turbotax Works for Me

Turbo Tax is good for my tax needs. I had a somewhat complex tax situation until I retired in 2013 and was not satisfied with my previous tax preparer; too many errors and poor coordination with me. So I switched to Turbo Tax for 2014. Last year was a learning experience and I didn’t fully appreciate how TurboTax worked. So I didn’t fully utilize its capability.
But building on that, this year has been much improved. The process is not fully intuitive, but Tech Support this year was very good and readily available. I am well satisfied with Turbo Tax this year. I would like to know how to set up a Not-for-Profit Volunteer “small business” type effort for next year and am not sure how to satisfy filing and record keeping requirements and procedures.

What's great about it: Good capability; better with experience filing; Tech Support very helpful and available
What's not so great: Home and Business package use not clear; need help for non-profit volunteer self-employment

I have used TT now for more than 10 years. Started using it right after I realized that many of the Tax services simply are not more than a clerk typist, and I could do myself what they charged for doing with TT for less. I love how it puts W2 info in automatically, and how you are able to see your refund or what you owe as you enter. This has helped me over the years to determine what really affects my taxes and what does not. Important if you want to know what to track as expenses and what you need for your records. Many tax services love to tell you what they can deduct, only to make it sound like they are getting you more back; however, many times these extra deductions don't actually get you anything. Everyone should do their own taxes to see what they actually get deductions and credits for. Electronic filing and a quick refund (7 days) is nice too,
What's great about it: Simple format, and info is very helpfull. Save work in progress.
What's not so great: Cost

Screwed up ending

Everything was fine until I was charged for electronic filing for State returns, and I could not get the state return to file. needed some code I don't have. Then it would not let me file electronically and pay with check later.
Always have trouble on the NJ State return.

I had used TT for several years before. I went to accountant for two years because of some tax situation. This year I'm back to TT and had horrible experience. It is no longer as smooth as it use to be. Even the charges for services are advertised wrong.
I'm probably going back to accountant for next year return.

What's great about it: It helps you identify everything step by step
What's not so great: Does not have capability to import older tax return. Online paying with credit card did not work for any service

Convenient but 2015 Home/Bus is the slowest yet.

I've always liked Turbo Tax (using it since 2006). Being the owner of a small business, it is nice to be able to try different scenarios and see their impact. But, this year the software was incredibly slow. I clicked, I watched the ball spin, I clicked again, I watched the ball spin some more...
Perhaps a feature could be added that prevents auto calculation until all the information in a section can be entered, and then you could prompt it again to proceed with the calculation.

And two or three times it just plain quit--as if it could not keep up with my clicking "Done." Luckily, no information was lost.
The experience does make me want to look to see what other packages are out there.
What's great about it: It is nice the way it is able to handle all the recursive calculations.
What's not so great: The 2015 version (for the mac at least) is deathly slow. I spent 80% of the time watching the little beach ball spin.
