Getting it done!

I have used Turbo Tax for many years but last year I used another software on another computer so this year I had to start over (with a new computer) and the tax info didn't transfer over..
Perhaps the tech helping me failed to transfer this return when installing my new computer.

All in all the process was satisfactory and will use this computer and Turbo Tax Home & Business next year.
What's great about it: Straight forward format
What's not so great: used another software on another computer and coudnt transfer info automatically
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Mostly Great Software

I had a problem locating the Schedule C LTC insurance deduction worksheet (I finally found it in a link in a help screen, but it should have come up automagically, and it should have appeared in a forms search, and it did neither.
I downloaded some 1099-R forms and the instructions were unclear so they were downloaded multiple times, and it is not clear if I click the delete box on the screen that shows multiples whether or not all of them will be deleted or just the duplicates. (I ignored that screen and deleted the extras manually in the forms screens.)
When checking for errors, some entries came up as missing on Schedule K, but I do not need to file Schedule K, nor did I ask for it. (I went to forms, and deleted the Schedule K forms, and that took care of that. If I really had needed Schedule K, then the deletion(s) would have produced some other error.)
These are just nits. I have used this software for years, and I will use it again next year. If any question arises, expert help is a phone call or chat session away.
I highly recommend it.

Great for Most Things

Turbotax is very helpful and works for most situations quickly and easily. But in the process of doing two separate returns (my sisters and mine) I spent about SEVEN hours on the phone with a variety of Turbotax folks who sometimes couldn't, and eventually did, solve my problems. I have been saying the same thing for a number of years but Turbotax has been unable, unwilling or just lazy about correcting the problems connected to the use of Form 1116.
What's great about it: Easy process that walks you though the tax thicket
What's not so great: Has some serious problems for serious tax matters

Moved along quicker than last year

The software itself moved through the different areas of the program more quickly than the past few years. There was very little wasted time while moving through the different areas of the tax return this year. Using the same computer, I could go through the different areas without the program making me sit and wait while it did its "thing" where the little circle kept circling until it caught up with itself. Anyway, I feel Turbo Tax moved along as fast as you could enter information. There are always areas where you have to leave the step by step input and go to an area manually and this year I did not have to hunt for an hour to find what I was looking for to enter the correct information. I have been using Turbo Tax for years and this year was the smoothest it has been in at least the past 5-7 years.
What's great about it: Easy to get to individual areas even if you had used the step by step method. The program itself moved faster than usual
What's not so great: Entering the pin to file electronically took you in circles until you realized you were going to continue in circles

Had a great experience last year, so returned again and it's great!
What's great about it: Easy to use!
What's not so great: I wish the percentages for a home office would transfer over from the last year, but that's about it.

Feds Good- State needs help

Ended up going to state revenue department for support and advice on how to complete the state return for some not so complex issues - certainly not worth the extra money I paid for it. Would have cost me less to go to a taxpreparer!
What's great about it: Federal Return processed easily
What's not so great: State Return not enough assistance and info

Great experience

Living here in Charlotte right on the SC state line requires me to buy an extra state every year. This seems unfair since it
used to come with the TT program. This especially true since
I do not prepare returns for hire. I just help some people get their taxes completed because I retired from IRS. We should get two states free. Drake software gives all states with their software. Since I buy the home and business version, it should come with at least two states.
