TurboTax crashed when transmitting returns
on April 18, 2016

When I did the tax return for my father-in-law who had a lot of capital gains because of a fund he had which bought and sold very small amounts of shares it took a lot of pages to complete the capital gains portion. I imported the file from the investment firm but hundreds of the records did not have the "wash sale" marked and I had to do these one by one for several hours. When I went to transmit the return it ran for a long time then crashed. I tried this a couple of times and it kept failing during the transmit. Then it told me that a return with that SSN had been filed already even though TurboTax says it has not been efiled yet. So I am not sure what the real status of my father-in-laws return is.
What's great about it: fairly easy to use
What's not so great: crashed when transmitting return
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Simply the Best

I've been using Turbo Tax for the past 15 years and love the product overall. I like that they check as I'm going along and give me options, e.g., showing me how doing something different like opening or depositing into an IRA will save me money. They even have a calculator that lets you try different amounts and see the difference it will make in the bottom line. Turbo Tax answers all my questions and makes tax time easy! Thanks Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Love how TT always gives me the option to "go back" if I mess up something.
What's not so great: Little confusing on the business portion.

Easy to use. My wife's former company merged (fled the country to avoid taxes) and as a result we had to deal with capital gains taxes. A bit tedious, but managed to get through it and get all the information entered. A good learning experience.
What's great about it: Everything...very straightforward. Helpful hints and helpful FAQs
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

bad start, good finish

I purchased the product (Home & Business) at a big box store; a few weeks ago I entered basic personal information, but today (tax day), on startup it asked if I wanted to check for updates. Of course I did - but the program couldn't extract the new information. Worse yet, the only option it gave me was to wait and try updating later (I couldn't go to forms, etc.). In other words, it was frozen. I called customer support, spoke to a helpful fellow named Jonathan and all turned out well. But it seems this is a known defect with Mac computers as they try to work with the CD from the box stores - so why sell them there in the first place? Turbo's Jonathan saved the day; I thank him, and so should they.
What's great about it: careful customer support
What's not so great: defective out of the box
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
