Turbo tax has helped me through some difficult issues and while I could have taken it to a professional it has allowed me the chance to better understand the details of the tax system and how to maximize my deductions legally. I know that when I finished my return it was both accurate and honest.
What's great about it: Strong Customer service and draws past history extremely well
What's not so great: You need a search box that will pull up forms better and then a separate question box that can search out publications
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Pretty Good

I enjoyed how much detail it went into in order to pull out the most deductions possible. It really broke down nicely and delved deep into areas I didn't even realize were deductible.
On the other hand, I own a business and I didn't like that the types of deductions were different on the Turbo Tax Business vs the Turbo Tax Home and Business. Aside from that the mileage deduction was very confusing and I actually preferred the H&R Block version for this item.
In conclusion, although there were some areas I would've like to have seen a little more of an explanation in because they were things I didn't know about or had never heard of, this software is still better than the H&R Block product. The detail and as a result accuracy of this product makes it with out question and hands down the best tax software on the market. Not only would I, I already have recommended this software to friends for tax prep!
What's great about it: Extremely detailed in its breakdown of deductions!
What's not so great: It was in some areas fairly confusing.
Pros: I had a baby

Family Return

I have used Turbo tax for over 5 years. I like how it takes all my data from the previous year and loads it in the new return. This decreases the time I spend on my return. I like how I can explore on my own and it will walk me through each section when I want.
What's great about it: Asked me indepth questions for my returns and quick simple returns for my three children.
What's not so great: Sometime it took a little time to get updates. Not too bad.

What's not so great: If you go through all the questions Turbo tax asks, many of them do not applicable to my tax
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Importing last years taxes
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: dak6143
Changed computer this year and had only PDF from last year on it. When TurboTax imported the PDF, it should have a message to import .tax file instead. I went through more than half of my taxes before realizing that no info regarding Schedule C depreciation or Loss carry forwards, etc. was included in this years forms. I ended up copying the .tax file for 2014 onto this computer and started a new return. A simple warning message in the very beginning about PDF vs. .tax would have saved me several hours of useless work.
What's great about it: Great if .tax file is imported
What's not so great: PDF file was imported, no indication that info is missing
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Home & Business

The "Fonts" are too small for 60 year olds on the informational pop-up screens. Pop-up reviews hard to see inside. Could use a screen to revert to that shows tax forms as they are being prepared; likewise it would be good to have the tax form with links from each line instead of having to go through all the questions again. Been doing tax returns for 40 years and know where the info goes on form, not as easy to figure where it is entered in Turbo tax.
What's great about it: Easy to use ask a lot of questions.
What's not so great: Ask too many Question! Does not show forms as data is entered.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
