Don't pay someone else

Your accountant will ask you the same questions that turbo tax does... Turbo tax is way cheaper than your accountant that asks the same questions... You pay an accountant to ask you the same questions and type in your answers. plus they provide cheap audit defense!
What's great about it: easy to use, be the accountant

My Favorite Tax Advice and Form Filler

I've been using Turbo Tax to do my taxes for 7+ years, without a complaint-it always simplifies my life to have a program that pulls together all my tax info and records it in the correct forms. Step-by-step or selection by form available. The software improves each year, and has a user-friendly interface to make tax returns understandable. Detailed look-up information is clear and concise. A great help to find all tax credits and deductions that are available!
What's great about it: Easy step by step; cost effective; detailed explanations

Lost my whole return

Mac is new for me so some of the difficulty was not Turbo's fault.
I have used Turbo Tax for years and will continue as it is getting better, and certainly beats taking taxes to a tax man!

My Turbo Experience

I have used Turbo Tax faithfully since 2006. I won't use anything else unless it is absolutely impossible to get TT.
What's great about it: Makes filing worry free
What's not so great: Nothing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

some frustrations

Finding carryovers when they were requested, even though they were in a worksheet from prior year Turbo-Tax return, Would have been easier if the info pop-up box had said where to find them. The state ID codes worked eventually, but the first 3 times, they weren't accepted even though i had entered them correctly.
What's great about it: importing data and carryovers
What's not so great: carryovers not obvious and tax-exempt state IDs were difficult
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I had difficulty getting the software to work correctly - we had 2 business vehicles, the first one was donated to a charity and the second one was traded in for a new vehicle on 12/31/15. Software did not work very smoothly and I spent quite a bit of extra time on this area. For some reason it kept saying I traded both in, which wasn't correct. Eventually, I figured out what I needed to do to get it to work. It just wasn't as easy as it should or could have been.
What's great about it: Easy to use/entering the charitable contributions was EASY!
What's not so great: wasn't easy when we had 2 business vehicles
Pros: I bought or sold investments
