Fast and Furious

Can't say enough good things about my life since TurboTax. It used to be a time-consuming and arduous process, checking the latest tax requirements and working through computations. I do all of the returns for my family in this one suite (Home & Business) and I love that it imports the previous year info when I do our taxes each year. The software is intuitive and takes me through each step. As long as I have my documentation from the year, this just speeds along the process. As much as you can love doing your taxes--never happen--this software and the support behind it makes it tolerable.
What's great about it: Does all the heavy lifting, up-to-date tips, eases the pain of tax time
What's not so great: Hard to be negative when I remember doing taxes on paper and the time that took
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Almost perfect

I like almost everything about TurboTax Home and Business. Two things that I'm not happy about are:

1) Starting next year it will no longer work with the operating system on my computer. My computer is old enough that I cannot upgrade to a newer OS, so I will be forced to buy a new computer just to do my taxes. This is a BIG problem, which will send me looking for a different product.
2) The software will not let me alphabetize my list of charities for deductions. I have a long list of charities to which we give, so this restriction makes me spend time searching back and forth through the list to find the appropriate entry. An alphabetizing option should be easy to implement and would be a huge help.
What's great about it: Clear directions, easy to use, covers all my tax situations
What's not so great: Lack of alphabetizing for the charities list.

Healthcare Worksheet Glitches
on April 17, 2016
Posted by: ssmft1
I had no problem with 2014 taxes to this regard, but 2015 was a horrible headache because my Healthcare Worksheet would not save my 1095-A data entries for later review, and I could not see where my portion of the Insurance Premium was included in my tax deductions.
What's not so great: Healthcare Worksheet data entered from 1095-A never saved to database...

Better than before

I've been using TurboTax for maybe 15 years. It's had its ups and downs. I remember one year none of the drop-down menus worked right, and if you didn't go sequentially through all the interview stuff it was easy to go astray. The last couple of years at least I've used TurboTax Home Business, because I am self-employed and have to do a Schedule C. My 2015 taxes were extra exciting because I had four big events: sale of a home, a child starting college, Obamacare, and taking out a second mortgage.
The only thing that really messed up this year was the help links, to which I refer often. Quite a few times clicking on a link yielded nothing. After a while I found that if I navigated away and then back to that screen, the link would work. Go figure. Aside from that, I was very happy with the whole process. I shudder to think how this would go without something like TurboTax. I would probably have to go to an accountant.
What's great about it: Easier to navigate
What's not so great: Help links intermittently nonfunctional
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It would be nice if Intuit guaranteed refunds :-)

Of course I know Intuit won't guarantee refunds, but they make it easy to find as much as you can. I have been using Intuit Turbo Tax for many years and will continue to do so. Having the previous year's deductions also helps spur the hunt for more receipts
What's great about it: Easy, plain language questions, with quck access to Help
What's not so great: When completing Additional Details worksheets, has no Calculator in the amount fields
