ALMOST got it right... again...

I like this program and have been using it since it was MacInTax. It does seem like every year, there is one form or feature that is simply broken. It's always something different, but it seems there is always some worksheet that puts the result on the wrong line, or a fillable field that will simply NOT accept information, despite what the directions say. Figuring out a workaround is always, to put it mildly, frustrating!
What's great about it: Comprehensive, mostly intuitive.
What's not so great: Every year, there is something broken.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

You'll never go back

We've used TurboTax since it was on the big floppy disks! We still can't believe people organize all of their tax info and then actually take it to someone else to complete the easy part. What a waste of money and time!
What's great about it: Intuitive as well as guiding
What's not so great: None

Success on incredibly complicated return
on April 17, 2016

I have been using TurboTax for many years, but was nervous about this year's return because of the complexity: two businesses, three k-1s, rental property, investment income, and historic building renovation credits. I was able to work through all of the issues - with a few moments of extra research here and there. I also really appreciate the online help space where I found that many of my questions had already been asked and answered.
What's great about it: Handles everything I threw at it, including rental property, investment gains and losses, and dissolved partnerships
What's not so great: Some complex interview questions not defined sufficiently to answer correctly the first time
Pros: I bought or sold investments

When I started with my business and entered my 1099-misc it was OK but when I tried to enter my W-2 from the same company (I went full time as an employee in October) the program stated that I had to choose a different name for either form. That is not possible since you have to enter what is actually on the document received. Then the program combined the income from the W-2 and 1099 but entered the combined amount in personal and business income. I was unable to get any online help so I just dumped the whole return and started over. This time I had to enter my vehicle expense twice as if the program did not remember doing the task just a few minutes ago.
I hope next year will go better.
What's great about it: simple to use
What's not so great: gave me problems for the first year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The 1001 Nights

The first time I used T-Tax, I went thru EVERYthing. It took a while, but your guidelines in each topic help decide pretty quickly whether I need or want to fill in that category. Good hand-holding! I love the fact that T-Tax figures all that messy stuff, like depreciation on our business vehicles. I'd never get there. I use a Macbook, and--unlike some software--the product has never given me one bit of trouble, because of living on another "continent."
What's great about it: great having all of last year's info transferred, even down to individual entries along the way.
What's not so great: at times it was tough to get to the right place to enter business deductions. We have 2 businesses to deal with.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
