Feeling good
on April 17, 2016
Posted by: BobH2016
I've used TurboTax for 2 decades. It has always served me well, and I appreciate the work that goes into making the process smooth and almost always informative. I know i could have done this at no cost by using IRS forms directly, but I would always have the lingering feeling that I'd forgotten something. Also, TurboTax is great at finding little (usually stupid) errors that I otherwise wouldn't have caught. I'll use it again next year.
What's great about it: Thorough analysis, no need to dig for forms
What's not so great: more expensive than finding forms through IRS

Not very user friendly this year
on April 17, 2016

When reviewing errors it is hard to understand what it referring to, and you can't see complete info on error screen. You have to go searching to find what the heck its talking about. The Section 179 was not easy to use this year and did not pull items from last years the way it could. This year's TurboTax has been a pain in the butt.
What's great about it: We didn't pay someone else to do taxes
What's not so great: The program is getting more difficult to navigate each year.

This year's TURBO TAX is awesome. The improvements made in it have made a very customer oriented product.
What's great about it: Ease of use, speed, built in cross checks
What's not so great: Can't think of any
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Poor Printing performance
on April 17, 2016
Posted by: stormy247
As far as forms and calculations, things went as planned. when it came to printing copies things did not go so well.
For what ever the reason the first two 1040 main forms would not print. After and hour and lots of wasted paper I finally had to save a PDF to my computer and print from there. This was very frustrating and I think this will be my last Turbo Tax purchase.
Tax time is frustrating enough, your tax software should not add to the frustration.
What's great about it: Good information and Easy input
What's not so great: would not print all the pages required. Had to find work around.

Like the old Turbo Tax better
on April 17, 2016

Frankly, I like the old Turbo Tax much better the product today. Perhaps, it has to do with the younger generation who do the programming. The old product (back in the year around 2005 so ) that had sound with a lady and a man voice accompanying the product. That was a truly friendly easy Turbo Tax I knew. Turbo Tax today is not for beginners. I am a long time Turbo Tax user, and It still gives me a curve some times.
What's great about it: Easy to do if you know what you are doing
What's not so great: Not for beginners

PERFECT EXCEPT CITY TAXES
on April 17, 2016
Posted by: stella21319
I had an accountant for 4 years, who made 2 major mistakes so this year, I bought Turbo Tax. I wish they had a companion book to go with the program, and a way to include filing city taxes. Other than that, it was step by step, and allowed me to do my own taxes, of which, I did. I'm a small business for profit. It took about 20 hours to do.
What's great about it: STEP BY STEP
What's not so great: No city information to file city taxes

Not as helpful as could be

Being a military spouse, the software does not accommodate happily married spouses with different states of residence, part year here and part year there. And no matter how I try to look for help, no one has the answer...I have to create a mock return for Federal, married filing separately, to get the numbers I need for my state return - quite a lot of extra work.
I also run my own small business, and still end up quite confused regarding many small business aspects. Not all expenses are clearly defined. And how do I define a business that is a sole proprietor with a home office but works out of state quite often. How do I go about deductions for 2 people who use the same office space. It all sounds simple on the surface, but after all the angst I still go through I may have to pay a professional that can really answer all my questions.
What's great about it: Lots of forms, to accommodate lots of situations
What's not so great: Still doesn't properly address military spouse situations

TurboTax web & realtime help is VERY DISAPPOINTING
on April 17, 2016
Posted by: beentherebefore
TurboTax would not transfer my Schedule F depreciation table from last year's return, and the Premier version did not query me for asset information.
I eventually resolved matter by upgrading to the Home and Business version, but the delay and frustration was so unnecessary and my joint filer is now insisting that we use a tax preparer next year to reduce the nuisance.
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
