Turbo Tax Saved the Day!

Taxes were a bit tricky this year, but Turbo Tax made it very easy and saved us a lot of time.
What's great about it: Easy and Quick!
What's not so great: Had to read a few questions a couple times.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

still not perfect

it's really hard to navigate and understand the different categories. If you close the program it should ask you if you have saved. it does not do that. there is no section where you could make personal notes to keep to make your tax preparation easier based on your finding while doing this year's tax. I would call it personal hints, so you can either document your process, or check list what details and documents you need etc. Is should be a blank area on the program, then you can keep everything together in one electronic file and make your process easier the next year.
What's great about it: computerized
What's not so great: doesn't give the option to save when you close

A client in Canada does not report to the US government via 1099. I earn the money in the US and am paid out of a US bank accont. TT does noto direct me well on where to enter the income
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: Certain parts of the business return need additioal explanations

Better Every Year

TurboTax makes it possible for me to do my own return. For my tax situation there are more than 100 pages of forms and worksheets that would need to be filed the traditional way. There is no way I could wade through all those forms and not make mistakes.
I love the comparisons with previous years. You can spot right away if your numbers are making sense or not. This year I spotted a key error I make on last years return using the comparisons.
TurboTax saved me money by running the IRA calculator (even through I didn't ask) where I discovered that my wife can contribute to an IRA, saving us about $200 on this years tax bill.
My area for improvement .. there is a lack of information for a more unusual tax situation. My RRSP (Canadian version of IRA) is not federally taxable but IS taxed in California for both dividends and capital gains. However there is no explanation if this means realized or unrealized capital gains. After some web surfing it looks like this means realized gains (sold something) and not just the account value.
I will never do my taxes again without TurboTax!

Easier than expected

I own a business, rental property, and work a full time job. Turbo tax made filing easy. There were a few items I was unsure of but a quick Google search got me through. Will be using next year

Tough to Navigate Errors

We completed 4 returns with Turbo Tax this year. My daughter, self-employed in mid-2015, purchased the Home & Business Turbo Tax, in hopes that it would make the tax process simpler. After inputting all the information, Turbo Tax computed a penalty, but didn't call her attention to the penalty nor did it ask her to review that computation. If she didn't review a paper copy before e-filing, she would have paid that penalty. It seemed that the software didn't understand that she paid her estimated taxes timely. Just thought that the software should have told her about the penalty and gave her a chance to review the computation.
What's great about it: Our family completed 4 tax returns accurately with Turbo Tax.
What's not so great: During the review, the program listed errors, but it wasn't clear where we made the mistake.

Without TuboTax you Lose

If you don't use TurboTax you will never be able to relieve your stress of the tax preparation woes. Why pay someone who uses the software to do your taxes when you can use it yourself with confidence. I've been hooked on TurboTax for 4 years. Just do it.
