Turbo Tax to the Rescue ... Again!

For four years I have done some basic calculations and did an extension until Oct 15th. Why not, it's simply too easy and April arrives way to early for this headache. Last year, 2015 I went to do my returns for 2014. Due to an extra 1099 it caused me some grief and I almost didn't make the time line. Then still got another small amount due to the IRS. Simply put it sort of woke me up to get with it earlier in 2016.
I did ... sort of. I have given myself the past week (on and off# getting my paperwork ready. This was for my own piece of mind and also so my wife would not remind me all year I need to complete our taxes. Last year's scare did that. I have worked off and on all week, and successfully loaded my taxes to the government with Turbo Tax help.
Thanks ... and I mean it.

What's great about it: Extremely easy for procrastinators like me. Simply answer questions and it does the work.
What's not so great: Wish I were a CPA.

I will not buy TurboTax again

I have always liked turbotax but this is the last year I will use it. I felt it had hidden fees and obligated me to put an email in the end for follow up emails I did not want.

Not as good as last year

I've been using TurboTax for more than 20 years. In most years it's been improving every year and easier to use. This year, for some reason, it seems more cumbersome and less transparent. The guidance for Schedule C with the new de minimus election is not very helpful.
The identity theft problems are very real.
What's great about it: comprehensive
What's not so great: not as transparent as prior years

The only thing easier than using Turbo Tax is not having to file taxes at all.
What's great about it: Quick, easy and very helpful in making sure everything is considered
What's not so great: Price of software continues to go up
