the usual

This is the usual TurboTax experience. On occasion it can be a little opaque, and you don't know why you are getting an error, etc. One thing it does that is essential for me is downloading my 1099 information direct from my stockbroker. These days, where the brokers are maintaining records on the basis of every position and reporting that to the IRS, you need to have a return that matches their report in every respect, including every reinvested dividend, etc. What a headache to do this yourself! TT takes care of this very easily. On the downside, I got a couple of 1099s for RMDs from inherited retirement accounts, and TT did not decide it needed to know the name and address of the recipient (that would be me, but with some appropriate language that shows it was inherited) until the moment I was about to e-file. I had run error check on this return several times - why wouldn't it have caught this earlier?
What's great about it: importing data from stock brokerages is essential
What's not so great: amazingly did not catch some required info until e-filing

the extra weekend really didn't matter!

The only cloudy perception I have while using TurboTax is that many times I use Forms mode to input info, but the info doesn't show up when I go into EasyStep. Also, especially in Form 8829 for home office, in Forms mode, I am not able to input information, even though the input box at the top says 'user entered'
Otherwise -love it!
What's great about it: always nice having an online community to turn to
What's not so great: can't think of one

Every time I tried to purchase Audit Defense the window would just sit there so I was never able to get to the Intuit Store. It was as if the link simply wasn't there. I finally had to decline it in order to move on.
What's great about it: Most steps were very easy to follow
What's not so great: Wasn't able to purchase Audit Defense

e-file 1099's what a hassle
on April 16, 2016

Before even doing anything, once you selected to do 1099s on paper you can't switch to e-file (which gives 1 month later deadline), it was a project to find where to input SEP contributions ( a 40,000) deduction." Will walk you through" misses a lot of deductions, the only way to find them is to go to forms, but why do you need Turbo Tax then?
A special trap is set up so one can not import previous years Turbo Tax to a different tax program. I am not into suing people,
but can't wait for a class action on Turbo Tax
What's great about it: NONE
What's not so great: hard to find needed info, intentionally programmed to make doing taxes hard

Excellent Product

Love the product. Especially appreciate the recognition of data from previous years that affect the current year's return.
On the bad side, I held an interest in an LP for part of one year for which I received a K-1. I have not had an interest in that LP nor have I received a K-1 since then. Yet, I have not found a way to remove that LP from my return. So every year, I need to answer questions that no longer apply.
What's great about it: Best way for most taxpayers to prepare returns.
What's not so great: Could not find a way to remove an LP I no longer have an interest in.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

USER FRIENDLY

For the most part, i love it. I use it every year. occasionally there are some terms or questions that are ambiguous, but a quick google search alleviates that problem!
What's great about it: STRAIGHT FORWARD
What's not so great: SOME VERBIAGE CONFUSION
Pros: I had a baby

Loved TurboTax online, the CD... not so much!
on April 16, 2016

I've submitted using the online version for the past several years and it was a seamless experience. I bought the desktop version at a retailer this year because it included the Federal e-file. My system does not have a CD drive so I contacted Intuit tech support and after a pleasant but prolonged experience, they enabled me to download the software.
The desktop version seemed sluggish and it was not as intuitive at times. Also, after entering my vehicle information, I had to hit "Edit Vehicle" to enter my mileage. Similarly, I had to do the same with my home for home-based business deductions. The Section 179 deductions for business also was quirky and I ended up just entering these items as a business expense.
I learn about maximizing my deductions using TurboTax every year, and I'll return to the online version next year.
What's great about it: The online version is a seamless experience
What's not so great: The desktop version... well, what laptops have CD drives anymore?
