I like Turbo Tax and have used it for years. This year however being retired we were asked questions about taking a minimum required distribution for a pension check. This was confusing because the pension is monthly for life and could not therefore have a minimum required distribution. Overall though Turbo Tax works really well.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Questions don't always make sense

A-minus

We have been using TT for almost a decade now, and continue to be impressed by it's ability to allow easy data entry and handle complex tax situations well. For the 2015 tax year version, there seemed to be a lot more questions, and some of them were not easily answered - more online support for this would be helpful. We suspect that some of this has to do with recent changes in the tax law. Also, the program occasionally gave error or warning messages, stating that required data had not been entered correctly, even when it had been. Still, it is overall a fantastic piece of software, and coupled with It's Deductible and online support, it will be our choice for the 2016 tax season.
What's great about it: Handles complex tax situations with relative ease
What's not so great: Some confusing questions, and a few minor glitches
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I've used Turbotax for over 10 years. Love the way it works. Just have to stay focused on correct data entry. I like the way it finds your errors and forces you to correct them before filing. Plan on using it for 2016.
What's great about it: I liked the step by step process going through everything systematically. No Glitches - Yea!
What's not so great: none

Have used Turbo Tax for years. Generally, easy to use. Would appreciate more detailed guidance in the program for handling investment income and investment fees. Specifically, dividend income and taxes on capital gains.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Frustration with business vehicle.
on April 16, 2016

I added a vehicle for our business and TT kept asking me how I disposed of it. I didn't dispose of it. I don't know where TT sw got that idea. I finally had to delete the car and an additional form, then re-enter the data. Very annoying.
Also it asks questions such as "Are you still using the vehicle for business?" Does that mean in 2016? Or as of 12/31/2015? No time frame for reference. What if on January 1, 2016, we decided not to use the vehicle any longer? Why would/should that make a difference.
I'm a Software Engineering professional and many of the questions asked were ambiguous (had many possible different answers). Try making more specific questions, less general. Add time frames to what you are asking.
Who is writing the TT code? People in India? Taiwan? China? Try getting real American's to write the code. There is a real difference in the culture that spills into the code. We've noticed it where I work and have to carefully manage our overseas partners.
If you are using real Americans, they must be young and inexperienced with writing software. Or worse, management (non-software types) are directing the questions. Use logic; think about what the questions are asking and possible misinterpretation. Be specific in your questions to find the correct answer.
I've been using TT for many years now and this has been the most frustrating tax season I can remember. I hate doing taxes and will vote for a flat tax. If that hurts TT, get over it. What is more important, your bottom line or the sanity of tax payers.
What's great about it: Good step by step.
What's not so great: TT seems to add forms you don't need and then can't get get rid of through the step by step.
