I will tell you about this program. I have used this program for over 30 years, from it's begining and I LOVE IT!! It has constantly and consistantly upgraded and is so user friendly anyone can use it. My compliments to the makers of Turbo Tax.
I cannot say enough on how this program makes filing my taxes one of the easiest and accurate things that I can do in a mininum amount of time.
I will continue to use this product, and only this product, as long as I need too.
Thank you Turbo Tax!!!
What's great about it: Easy to use and the "guide me" features is excellent
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

i have been using Turbo tax to file for many many years and this year the program was terrible. The poor unclear directions and explanations were baffling, the lack of needed forms was stressful, the cost to file your state return was offensive, the glitches in fixing error was hideous, I am trying to figure out what I am going to do next year since I have used Turbo Tax for so long to do my taxes without using it scares me. But I guess they know that and count on it. So they don't care it they are putting out a good product like they did in the past.
What's great about it: Free Federal e-file
What's not so great: 24.99 cost to e-file your state, many form you need not included, poor unclear directions

We spent many hours trying to resolve a major problem with line 8's calculations on form 8829. The problem arrises from no instructions for a box that prompts you to put home business use percentage.. do not use same percentage from line 7 or it will really mess you up> we finally put in 100% and line 8 finally pulled from line 29 off our schedule c
What's great about it: affordability, all forms at the touch of a button, user friendly, maximizes all deductions
What's not so great: lack of instructions on form 8829 (home/ business)

Complex year

We have used TurboTax for the past 11 years. Most years we have a standard return without much detail and feel confident with the process each and every time. This year we made some financial decisions that created a complex tax year. TurboTax once again provided great guidance to feel confident when submitting our tax return. The key is ensuring that you select the correct TurboTax product that fulfills your needs for your situation.
What's great about it: TurboTax guidance is outstanding
What's not so great: I had a complex sale of investments that required some digging to get the information into TurboTax correctly

1099-Misc confusion

I purchased the Home & Business version. I really didn't like how the program starts off business and then the personal.
My wife got a 1099-Misc and TurboTax created a schedule C which I didn't realize until I got to my state tax return. It took sometime to clean it up.
TurboTax never informs the business side of the extra 15% for social security and medicare if self-employed. So after doing the taxes it appeared that the personal side (w2) needed to increase her tax deduction when it was the business increasing the taxes. Yes..Yes...I should have known about the 15% but that's why I purchased TurboTax.
Several input screen such as deductions are missing the summary and makes it appear that you did not input the information.

The product doesn't always provide past tax information. For example if I applied a refund from my state last year TurboTax still asks me if I did even though I used TurboTax to file and the information is available from last year. Doesn't always show tax input details from prior year.
Also I just noticed I missed a check box from my W2. Taxes have already been accepted. I can't find anything on TurboTax (PC version) for amending. Of course if you use the online version there is a button that you simple click to amend.
I guess it is time to use a human to do my taxes.
What's great about it: E-file; step-by-step while viewing the form
What's not so great: 1099-misc problems; input from prior year

Trouble with 179

Everything was great until I started my Schedule C and it would not add my section 179 expense deduction

I felt the need to read the Help and suggestions most of the time. The TurboTax software is somewhat friendly but I asked a lot of help in finishing.
