First Time Business Return - No Accountant Needed!
on April 15, 2016

Took a while to figure out how to deal with the 1098-T inputs. Would have been much easier if an automatic drop-down menu was triggered to discern actual 2015 payed amounts when user input revealed an "X" in box 7. Also, everyone is trying to figure out if their student's computer is a qualified expense; some type of question/answer exercise to assist in this decision would be very helpful, ie do professors require online work? does school provide ample computers for free access or just a few for emergency use? are specialize software programs not found on public computers required for certain classes (thus implying need for computer). We want to get the credit for which we qualify and look to Turbo Tax to help get us there.
What's great about it: very thorough and methodical
What's not so great: some items in education credit area not obvious / easy to follow

Seemed a little more complicated than years past. Harder to go back and make adjustments.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to use
What's not so great: Paid for it 3 times before I got the right one
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The Alabama product indicated it would compute military retirement as non-taxable, when in fact it did not. I had to manually override it in the forms section.
What's great about it: Ability to compare last year.
What's not so great: State of Alabama had a bug.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Please reinstate the "tax owed or refund amount" snapshot window into the forms version. It is a helpful tool and should never have been omitted.
