Problems

This year I had a terrible time....Line 42 of the 1040 could not be changed. I had to send it in wrong. When I started over, it continued to make the same mistake. I had spent three hours on the phone before I was told I had to start over.
Then when I clicked S corporation to check if I needed to fill it in and I didn't......I couldn't delete the S Corp from the return.
I am not sure I will ever use turbotax again.
What's not so great: Problems can't be erased

I think my personal info. is safer with TurboTax

I really like being able to do my taxes at my own pace, and not worry about how messy or unorganized i keep my records. Also the program helps walk you through everything so you don't miss any deductions you might have not known about. Also, I have a fairly complex return with rentals and a K-1 from a partnership, so this program helps me not miss anything. I especially like the fact that all my info from previous years is saved and uploaded the next year i need it. This is really nice for keeping track of stuff such as depreciation for my rentals and business.
What's great about it: Able to do taxes at my own pace
What's not so great: Cost of program

State refund taxable or not if you're in AMT last year - you have the prior year tax return so your program should be able to calculate this. It's really a pain (maybe impossible) to have it not be taxed the way it's set up now. It does matter if the refund is very big because it increases AGI and if you were in AMT last year and not this year, it matters more.
IOWA - I realize our return is a pain in the shorts but the S Corp credit is pretty common. When I used professional software it was as easy as entering the apportionment % and the software calculated it. If you can't do that then it would be nice if you at least had the schedule in there so I could fill it out. Now I have to print form from internet, fill it out by hand and then paper file my IA return. Really a pain. Also I'm having lots of trouble getting the IA out of state credit for foreign taxes to work this year. It did work last year. Thanks

What's not so great: state refunds are not always taxable if you were in AMT last year - and Iowa needs work on credits

Fixing Line Items - Errors reported in the smart c

During the checking phase, it says that one thing or another might be a problem. - There needs to be a way to click on it and go to the portion of the form
= I have multiple properties and I had to go through all of them to even find the issue and I still was not able to make adjustments to the line.

TurboTax 2016 review

I really appreciate the care and thoroughness of the instructions and pages used for almost all the topics I had to answer. The place I would suggest a few more words be added to clarify what needs to be entered are in the deductions for Taxes paid. It was hard to under stand whether a phrase for "2015 taxes" meant 2015 calendar year or 2015 tax year. That took me a couple of iterations to get it right to match all my 2014 and 2015 documents.
Thanks for the review for errors and omissions. That helps.
What's great about it: The program was easy to use for almost all topics. Most of the instructions were clear and easily understandable.
What's not so great: The pages and instructions for deductions for taxes, estimated taxes, taxes pad with extensions could be clearer.

Walks you through step by step. Any area I didn't understand, customer service walks you through. They are very willing to help you figure out your taxes, by researching any of your questions. They want you to succeed. Great experience. Take advantage of the "call you back" option so you don't have to wait on hold.
What's great about it: Walked you through all the steps. Great customer service.

Not as Good as it used to be - Bugs in system

Had to spend 5 hours with TurboTax support to find and correct a bug in the software that prevented e-filing. These are "Ghost" Forms with zero entries but prevent the software from working, after 8 years as a TurboTax user it's time to move on to a competing tax software program
What's great about it: Still easy to use
What's not so great: Bugs in Turbotax software prevented e-filing
