TTax H&B AMT and 1116 Still Problematic
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: RKim1
Questions are often inartfully posed. I don't understand specifically what data TTax needs from me, because it does not ask questions with specificity, accuracy, and explain WHY it needs that data and for WHAT tax-preparation purpose. Processes for AMT and 1116 are so opaque (no recitation of HOW it calculated AMT and 1116) and questions about 1116 statements and worksheets do not explain WHY that info. is needed and where to find the info. Also, TTax will not allow you, in some cases, to move to the next step unless/until you complete THIS step, and this step asks a confoundingly obtuse question without explaining where you can find the data or WHY you need to input that data.
What's great about it: Imports brokerage info. and previous year's tax return info.
What's not so great: Still poor grammar and vague questions, ham-fisted approaches to AMT and 1116 forms

2015 Turbo Tax
on April 14, 2016

What could have been automated.
Received 1099-SA for refund of over payment; this is entered, so could have been accounted for without a second entry of that refund.
The review submission process is too cumbersome and I will not do it again, so what if someone else used the same nickname. I do not want to have to guess and keep submitting TOO IRRITATING
What's great about it: Walks you through the process
What's not so great: Makes you do a few things that could have been automated
Pros: I bought or sold investments

When the items I listed as a loss from a auto accident my motorcycle and Rolex watch on my Fed return it was listed correctly. When the information was transferred to the State return it was posted as a Sale

Gets the job done

There appears to be at least one website dedicated to those aggravated by the TT experience. I hope TT folks are reading the complaints. I haven't yet had any egregious experiences with TT and hope to never. I was one of the many purchasing Home and Business who had the false impression I would be able to e-file my state return for no additional charge. I purchased H & B because I expected my filing would be a bit more complex this year. Everything seemed to go fairly well and I intend to use TT again next year.
What's great about it: kept me focused on the task
What's not so great: having to pay to file the state return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easy to Use
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: SarahBar
I wanted to print out a complete set of documents for my files; that went well. But when I wanted to print out just the tax forms that I would provide to a lender the process got more tricky. It was difficult to tell which version to choose and print. I finally printed one and pulled out the TurboTax cover sheets and a few other sheets that were marked 'keep for your records', or 'do not send in mail with tax return.' It was very laborious.
What's great about it: Software does a good job of guiding you through the steps
What's not so great: It was confusing at the end to figure out which version to print for me records
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
