easy to use

What's great about it: easy to install and file electronically . Complete process was a snap. Will use it again.

TurboTax Home and Business

I have been a loyal user of TurboTax from its beginnings as Mac-N-Tax. I was disappointed to hear on social media that Intuit was actively lobbying to KEEP our cumbersome tax code. Personally I am AGAINST the "Fair Tax" and think that the "Flat Tax" is not a fair tax to professions and businesses that are capital intensive like farming. The tax code is too cumbersome and complicated and needs to be simplified. There are also special provisions (loopholes) that have added that benefit specific professions. Carried Interest taxed at "Capital Gains" rate rather than an "earned income" rate is such a provision.
I appreciate that TurboTax carries over tax payer information, previous tax year information, investment information and depreciations information from previous year return. I also use the preparation W-2 and 1099 Forms. However that feature does not work on my Mac. The ease of switching between EasyStep to Form is conventient. I also like the fact that that TurboTax data file structure has been the same between the Mac version and the Windows version.
One feature I really miss is the CD/DVD backup. In past years I was able to save a copy of my TurboTax data files and a copy of the TurboTax software. I believe this feature was only on the Mac side.
I like TurboTax and hope that you continue to make an excellent software product.
What's great about it: Carries over information from previous year return, prepares W-2 and 1099 Forms, can switch easily from EasyStep to Form
What's not so great: Lobbying to KEEP cumbersome tax code, 1099 & W-2 not work on Mac side, change backups

I'm sure Intuit would die if the tax code were simplified.
BTW, Quicken wasn't any help. They have ruined a simple
program and they try to sell another version yearly.

Not always clear

I have used TuboTax for 4 years. I purchased a new CD version of Home & Business. I am in real estate and have been for many years. I found the questions less clear this year and more difficult to answer.
I was able to get the help I needed by phone but it was a more difficult return to file.

The 2014 tax year had quarterly estimated taxes that were too low. Income was approximately the same as 2014 but 2015 ended up with a large tax liability. 2015 seems more reasonable, however, I continue to be suspect.

Some things never change

I've been using Turbotax for at least 10 years and every year I sucessfully import the previous year's return. Yet the program still occassionally asks me to go back and copy line items over from previous year's returns. Really? Also, when going "back" the chosen radial buttons and sometimes even the entered numbers disappear. Makes me wonder of the program remember the previous choices or not. I think it does but the behavoir is unnecessary and annoying.
What's great about it: Quick and easy
What's not so great: Old issues are unresolved
