Quick and easy

I used the Home and Business version, and although I did use the search feature to find topics I needed to return to, sometimes they seemed "lost." For example, I couldn't find a place to enter mileage for my vehicle until I clicked to edit what I thought was the information for the type of vehicle or when it was purchased. But no, that was to enter mileage, etc. That sort of thing was really my only complaint. I did not find a place to enter charitable contributions made by my business, but I didn't have that much, and I included them with my personal donations. I hope that doesn't matter.
What's great about it: Easy to use, user friendly, covered "all the bases."
What's not so great: I had trouble finding topics sometimes.

Not as good as prior year's
on April 13, 2016

As a TT customer for more than 20 years, I wouldn't still be using it if there was a better product available. However, this year's version of short/long term losses was so difficult to comprehend, I had to pull up past years' forms to understand. Upon completion, there was no option to apply my refund to next year's tax. This caused me to think the option was no longer available, but it was hidden elsewhere. Finally, when I tried to pay for the state e-file, it would not accept my login data, even after changing passwords. All minor, but they delayed me.
What's great about it: Mostly easy to follow and input data
What's not so great: Some illogical areas caused delays
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It is nice having the computer fill in the forms and do the math. I did have difficulty figuring out how to apply state refund toward next year;s taxes.
What's great about it: Checks forms for accuracy
What's not so great: Difficult to figure out how to apply state refund for next year's taxes.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

First Time Self-Filing Business & Personal Taxes
on April 13, 2016

Other than a mishap with a blown breaker and losing my 95% done return because there was not an autosave function, it was a great experience.
What's great about it: Detailed explanations that guided me through the process and helped me know what to watch for next year.
What's not so great: No Autosave Function
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Reviewing Inputs & Returns before Filing
on April 13, 2016

It is much too difficult to review the entire return (without printing), including worksheets, prior to starting the filing process. Also, while inputting info, it is much too hard to go back and review entries without working your way through the entire section again. TT never seems to improve on this. I see virtually no improvement in the user interface year to year.

Turbotax Should Be Easier To Navigate
on April 13, 2016

The program makes it difficult to go back and make changes and hard to find screens you are looking for when you look at the completed return and want to make specific changes. I tried switching to Forms View and I could not change the amount entered incorrectly. I also found the Help mode to be worthless. I think there should be a better Help mode and name the screens so they are easier to find. I am a CPA using this system for the first time and I find it to be subpar. In addition, I think you have a lot of nerve to charge a fee to e-file in NJ, especially when the State prefers e-filed returns.
What's great about it: questions to help enter information
What's not so great: difficult to go back and change information
