Federal OK, State So-So
on April 13, 2016

Would like to E-file a MA state for free but because of some reason that (4) boxes in 12 on W-2 filled it could not be done, no reason given. would like to have more info and step by step for state return preparation to gain understanding of filling out of forms.
What's great about it: Federal preparation is completely understandable, step by step and individual review of preparation is understandable.
What's not so great: State return is just a pull through of data, no ?s or step by step

Confusing

I upgraded to Home and Business only to learn that it does not handle trusts. This is false advertising. I had to purchase Turbo Tax Business separately. Turbo Tax Business doesn't handle filing Trust form for the state - another disappointment. Will probably use TaxAct next year.
What's great about it: Personal Tax is easy
What's not so great: Home and Business does NOT handle trusts - false advertising
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

All in all the program was pretty easy to use. It seemed a bit different this year than last year's program. I will continue to use this program.
What's great about it: Most of the process was pretty easy to do
What's not so great: I had difficulty finding out where to claim Royalties...and it didn't ask for their tax id #

I have been using TurboTax for years and would not recommend any other tax software out their.
What's great about it: Step by Step
What's not so great: Each time a section is done the screen snaps to the top, scroll down to continue.

Great Tax Program
on April 13, 2016

Over 10 years ago I worked part-time for a well known well respected Tax Prep company. After leaving, I decided to find a way to prepare my own taxes. I discovered TurboTax and have been using TurboTax for over 12 years, occasionally used other programs to help family members. TurboTax is the best program for anyone to prepare their own taxes. Simple to understand and use. I recommend this program to anyone that wants to prepare their taxes on their own.
What's great about it: Easy to use!!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Promises free state reurn yet asks for payment.

When advised it included a "free state e-file", I chose the button to "use the free state e-file now". Proceeded to complete state tax forms only to be asked for payment for such before it would e-file them. There was no option for using the free e-file there so had to go all the way back after e-file of federal and print to mail my state forms. If your going to charge what you do because it "includes a free state e-file" then include a free state e-file. Not Cool.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Doesn't fulfull all its promises

Gift-Inherited Home Nightmare

I will not use this product next year. A relative died leaving me 1/2 owner as joint tenants with another sibling. We converted the home to rental. I have no idea if I input the information correctly or if my return is correct. The help function did not provide any answers, and my question on the help forum was never answered.
I have no confidence in this product for next years return, and I will probably have to see a professional and file an amended return.
What's great about it: Allows input of information
What's not so great: Assumes you're an expert

Federal vs State
on April 13, 2016

It helpful to have Turbo Tax walk you through the questions and information. When the NH State business taxes are reviewed they shouldn't include my personal information.
What's great about it: Federal return works smoothly and thoroughly
What's not so great: State return doesn't transfer business information correctly.
