I have been a loyal TurboTax user for several years. I am self-employed and it's been a great tool for calculating home and business income, expenses and deductions. I highly recommend it for anyone who does their own finances.
What's great about it: very thorough
What's not so great: I had to hunt for some of the topics

Competent and Complete
on April 13, 2016

Although very complete, the programs stepped through the process differently than I would have liked. I prefer to deal with one persons income, expenses, donations etc. at a time rather than by topic and going back an forth between members of the joint return.
I had not used Turbo Tax for 15 years and it has changed greatly.
The tips in "blue" were very helpful to confirm what and why I was doing something.
What's great about it: Generally well organized to keep track of items completed
What's not so great: Not completely intuitive when dealing with rental properties starting
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Obama Care

Everything was fine with my taxes until the review. The review showed that some more information was needed in the health care area. unfortunately I don't even recall adding any info concerning health care. Whats more finding my way back to the health care form was extremely difficult and changing my inputs on the form was very cumbersome. I would have liked some up front alerts on how the health care coverage issues impacted my return. Turbo tax is very poor on this issue and needs lots more work. Turbo Tax should have anticipated the complexities of the health care issues this season.
What's great about it: Still pretty good
What's not so great: Not enough road map for health care options

Home Office confusing
on April 13, 2016

The process of entering information for use of a home office and other sole proprietor business expenses is confusing. When using the Easy Step you need to have everything correct the first time through as it is difficult to see how to get back to some of the entry screens.
It would be fantastic if there was a section of Easy Step that outlined what had to be entered (so you could gather the information that you need), then a complete step by step for entering the data, and then an easily recognizable path/link to return to the business data entry pages if necessary.
It seemed easier to follow in prior years. Last year 2014 was more difficult as was this year 2015.
thanks.....
What's great about it: All of the fields needed included
What's not so great: Hard to navigate back to home office expenses

Turbo Tax has taken out some guidance and feature they had in previous years. There are now sections with no guidance or explanation of what to do, just a "enter if you had such and such" with no button to click and the only help being "look at the IRS directions." Not helpful! This occurs in a lot of places now and an explanation of the intent of the question would really be helpful.
My main issue was in the AMT carryover section, but it occurs throughout.
There used to be more links to resources, not just a community question search.

Full of bugs

This is the last time I will purchase your product. It is not intuitive and difficult to get all the information in to the program. It would lock up every time I wanted to enter registration fees and Health Ins. verification info. My wife is Self Employed and has a Sep IRA This program has never given us a lead through your questioning that has gotten us to this screen without going to the forms an manually entering her Sep info. I don't like the strong arming to get us to us your products or services.
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: not access to health or registration items

Has served us well for a number of years

I used to enjoy doing my own taxes using a spreadsheet, but as one's situation changes, things get more complicated. I do miss not understanding each calculation and entry. But I am willing to take TurboTax's word for things. For my "somewhat complicated" situation, I completed this year's tax return pretty quickly. Concerning Quicken, there is a place in Quicken to match categories and tax line entries. On your "first pass", be prepared to save your TurboTax file before importing from Quicken, and consider going back and doing some adjustments in Quicken. Even so, I still make some adjustments in TurboTax.
What's great about it: Very helpful with a somewhat complicated situation
What's not so great: Doesn't alway match up with Quicken - need to be careful
