Worst filing is several years

my program continued to hang up every time I mentioned I needed to fill in a 1095 B. I finally did it by hand. Luckily I have been using TurboTax for 13 years….so I knew what was wrong and where to find it.
I also have problems (but only in some areas---like fixing errors and filling out the 1095 B) with the press "help" button. Sometimes this either gives a blank help box or worse yet opens my 2011 copy of turbotax (the oldest I have on this Mac OS X machine.
What's great about it: efiling is still good
What's not so great: health insurance (1095 B) did not work at all

More power to the states

Federal returns are fairly easy. Some sections, such as AMT just ask you to make adjustments with little explanation as to what the adjustments are. State returns are much less descriptive and many sections do not have good explanations.
What's great about it: Federal is very easy to use
What's not so great: States need better explanations and instructions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I use them every year

I use TurboTax every year to file my business and personal taxes. it is fairly easy to go through the steps and I like the way it does the complicated worksheets for me. However, I have never been able to seamlessly import Quicken data to TurboTax. That has not been an enormous hurdle, since my business is small. Were it bigger, I would use a different regular bookkeeping program so the two could interface and save me a lot of time and hassle.
What's great about it: I like how it takes me through step-by-step
What's not so great: I have never been able to import from Quicken without having to hand calculate something
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2015 Stilled Paid

I have been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years. I have had a few glitches from time to time but for the most part it is the best program to use. It does help that I have an accounting degree from 25 years ago. I do not use my degree, but remember a lot. This year I had a very difficult time figuring how to quit using one vehicle and putting in another and figure out the depreciation for 10 years of using the older vehicle. I finally had to go to the IRS to get the chart and figure out how to do it. Since it was going to take me very long to find 10 years of mileage, I did not put the new car in. It was only 45 days usage on the new car. This will give time to find all my mileage and put the new car in starting 1/1/16.
What's great about it: Most of the time it is very easy to figure out what you are asking for
What's not so great: I had a difficult time figuring out car depreciation
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Filing Was a Pain

This year, I upgraded to TurboTax Home and Business because we had a new IRA. Filling the forms out took time (since I did it by hand as opposed to uploading it). However, because I could not find "My Account" to change the security features, I was unable to bypass the security checks--my files are on my home computer and my E-mails are sent to my work address where there is limited access. I liked that the program took care of all the calculations for me. However, if the security features are so complicated I cannot E-file my state taxes, I paid extra for the program that doesn't perform. Not as good as I'd hoped. However, probably not as bad as it could be.
What's great about it: Filling the tax information took some time (I did it by hand), but it did work out.
What's not so great: I couldn't accsss "My Account" or the security features.

I have filed with Turbo Tax every year since 2005. It pulls my information from the prior year for comparison and makes the process very smooth.
What's great about it: easy to use, pulls info from prior year
What's not so great: each year asks me to handle state tax. We don't have a state tax return.

Another year down

I suspect it had a hiccup when I changed computers in midstream, but when I got ready to file, it all of a sudden had a bunch of stuff missing. I knew that to be the case because I was expecting a fairly large bill and it showed me as a refund. Fortunately, it is easy to navigate around the program and see where it was missing data. The only unsure thing was I found more deductions and reduced my payment, which makes me suspect when I worked for days before to get it down. Hope I did not double dip somewhere.
What's great about it: Has all the details for the new health care silliness
What's not so great: Somewhere after I put all the paper away, it lost most of the deduction data
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I did my Dad's taxes that did not change much this year, but the program was less intuitive and I had to open actual forms to correct things to keep from making an error. In particular the he is in a long term care facility and that part was very confusing. If I did not know what the answer was last year, the program would have caused me to make an error in the government's favor costing my dad thousands of dollars. Suggest distributing the product to a few retirees to test to see how difficult is is for them to get it right.
