Easy as pie

As its name implies, TurboTax EasyStep walked me through each topic one step at a time. When I wasn't certain how to answer a question I used the online help for a more in depth answer to my uncertainties.
I have, and will continue to, recommend TurboTax.

I've used TurboTax since the first year it came out. I have never had any problems with my tax returns. I am not sure i could even weed through all the tax forms without the help of TurboTax.

Good tax sofware for sole proprietors

My wife and I have been using TurboTax for six or seven years now, and it's nice having software that picks up data from last year's return (such as any carry-forwards and depreciation data) and automatically plugs it into this year's return. Both of us are freelance writers, so we both file Schedule Cs for our sole proprietorships. We need something like TT Home & Business that can handle Schedule C as well as our personal return.
I like TurboTax' "interview" format, in which the program guides you through a series of questions in much the same fashion as a live tax professional would interview you. This gives me a high "comfort factor" that nothing's being missed. (You can always choose to work on specific areas, if you know exactly where you want to focus.)
As mentioned earlier, my wife and I are both freelance writers, and neither of us has a company name for our businesses (other than our personal names), so TurboTax puts the generic name "Writer" on both our Schedule C forms. This always creates some confusion for me when it asks me to plug in some information for "Writer" -- which Writer? Fortunately, if I continue along in the interview process it usually becomes clear which Writer's business it's asking about, and if I've found I've entered some wrong data the program always lets me back-step to fix anything that needs correcting.
I think TurboTax' biggest advantages show up if you use it year after year. In that scenario, it picks up a great deal of basic information from previous years' returns, saving you a lot of data entry and looking up things. That -- plus the fact that it automatically keeps track of anything to be carried forward from a previous year.
In addition to handling sole proprietorships, the Home & Business edition that I used also claims to handle limited liability companies (LLCs), but since I don't have an LLC I can't speak to how well it handles them.
What's great about it: I liked the Interview format, where it guides you with a series of questions
What's not so great: My wife and I both have freelance writing businesses, and I'm not always sure which business it's asking me about

I have used Turbo Home and Business for years. Sure beats paying for an accountant! Very user friendly. Walks you through everything step by step. Lets you go back and make changes. Excellent program!
