Easy to Use,Simple to Understand,and Filed Returns

I haven't done any tax returns in 10 years, because I was self employed and retained an accountant. So, this year I decided to use TurboTax once again to file my Federal, State and School District Tax Returns and it was just as simple as it was 10 years ago, if not easier. The Help and the Intuit Website pretty much contain all of the answers to your questions about creating and filing your Tax Returns. I am glad I came back to TurboTax.
What's great about it: Question and Answers step you through the Tax Returns
What's not so great: When you have errors, you may have to dig deeper by going to the internet of looking at the form in question.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used Turbo Tax for many, many years and have always been pleased. Just a couple of things I didn't like this year were it seemed I had to load and install the same update every time I loaded the software, and it was constantly running the calculations even when nothing had changed.
What's great about it: Takes you step by step through many topics and forms

Great, but Wish you would fix

This is intended to be a wish list for Turbo Tax. I think it's a great tool. I also think TT has a definite opportunity to make it greater. So here is my wish list. I'll continue to use it and hope these improvements happen. I hate when you go back through sections and it makes you answer the yes/no's again. I wish you could review the sections in summary forms with it showing the answers you've given. I also wish you had an advanced option, for those of us that want more info on what actually happens based on what information you give from a more technical perspective. Sometimes it's hard to know that you're putting information in correctly. I also think it'd be great to have an option to upload support/pictures/notes/links for each of the tax items, so that you can have an electronic version of all your tax information - forms, docs, support, etc - all of the above. You could put it all in a folder with subfolders by category that the user can choose, such as Personal, Rental A name, Rental B name. I also think it'd be cool to be able to enter information for next year as it happens, or note changes, etc... then have it be able to load in the next year's version to be sure and ask you about it or input the information you've already entered, such as buying a house, making a one-time donation (actually, I think we can do this with it's deductible), but you get the idea.
What's great about it: Tracks all years, generally easy to use, does my taxes - really like it overall
What's not so great: sometimes confusing and hard to know how you've impacted your taxes.

Improved Over Last Year

Improved over last year.
More options for importing W2 and 1099 information that actually worked.
I liked the process for entering state list for nontaxable interest earnings that did not require that the whole amount be accounted for.
Small irritations: In several places only YY year needed. In other places full YYYY needed and system put me back for not entering first 2 digits. This should default to tax year where warranted.
Account creation at Turbotax web site not smooth. Does not accept an acct name it asks for an email address which i was using for my business acct. Cannot maintain separate accts using same email.
What's great about it: More options for importing W2 and 1099 information that actually worked.

Going the Extra Mile!

This is the 10th year I have used TurboTax to file our taxes - my husband and I are self-employed, so there are additional forms we must submit each year because of having a business. Turbotax is simply the best tax preparation software out there, and I have learned more about tax credits and deductions because of the information that TurboTax provides. I have yet to be audited, despite being self-employed - claiming all the tax credits that you deserve is not risky, nor is it scary. TurboTax gives you the information to file your taxes, if you are someone who is a "hands-on" sort of person, which I am.
What's great about it: step-by-step instructions that make it easy to follow and simple descriptions to help explain each topic
What's not so great: took a long time to download the updated version

Very comprehensive

We have a rather complicated tax situation with foreign income, foreign property and domestic property. TT handles it all. When we sold one property this year, I discovered the need to back-depreciate our properties. Spent about an hour on the phone with a trained CPA through TT at no charge. She was able to help me, and as I feel competent enough to do my own taxes, I really appreciated not having to give up and hire a private accountant.
What's great about it: Handles rentals and foreign income
What's not so great: Tricky to figure out how to enter certain special circumstances
