You need to have people available during tax time to answer questions. Sending questions in and never hearing back or waiting a day or longer is not acceptable. Fix it!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax has been working for me for years with few problems.
What's not so great: Hard to get answers when you need them.

Needs Supporting Schedule A
on April 9, 2016
Posted by: wjmitchell
We did not have enough Schedule A Itemized Deductions so the Standard Deduction was taken. This is good for the Federal Return.
When completing the Wisconsin State Return, the Form 1 does refer to Schedule A Itemized Deductions. No Schedule A is in the list of forms to print ... (Not required for Federal)
Went back and FORCED the system to take the lower Schedule A deductions, printed multiple copies of Schedule A for supporting detail for Wisconsin Form 1, and then went back and took Standard Deduction ....
What's great about it: Complete Package
What's not so great: Unable to Print Schedule A for State Return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

The good: TurboTax is easy to use. The step-by-step instructions are solid and they have always 'Passed muster' when I review the relevant IRS guidance to check to make certain when I'm in doubt. TurboTax holds the prior year's information fairly well and having last year's numbers nearby is an immense help. The charitable item contribution worksheet gets better each year, thank you.
The bad: I've used TurboTax pretty consistently since about 2001. Every year I have to manually accomplish a great deal of my state return (MO) due to nonresidency.
-Overall, two things need to improve in order to speed up tax preparation. 1) Determining whether or not to take the standard deduction or itemize takes the most time. 2) Finding cost bases of stocks and especially mutual funds takes the next most. I used to use Quicken until 2006 and had always hoped that that would help solve both of the above; I stopped using Quicken in 2006 after over 5 years of use. Item #2 seems to be getting better (although I had far fewer equities transactions this year than in years past), keep improving!
Neutral: Having used TurboTax since around 2001, it would be nice for trend analysis if all prior years' return information were available (Make prior years available as a selection; I'm sure most people want to only see the immediate prior year). If impractical to make all years availale, then perhaps making the past seven years available would be helpful for trend analysis.
-An opportunity to provide annotations within the program that can carry over from prior years would also be helpful. I find myself wondering how I arrived at last years' numbers sometimes and an ability to include notes from year to year would help that effort.
-Include an opportunity to provide a notes page with the return might also be helpful; you'll probably need to coordinate that inclusion with the IRS and have them make a notes page into a standardized form. If this already exists, you will want to mention it in the step-by-step instructions.
Thanks for offering me the opportunity to provide feedback!
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Data transfer from prior years
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Like falling off a log!

I can't even remember when I started using Turbo Tax. I just remember 5.25 inch floppies were involved. Each year it gets easier to use. I like that it can pull financial data and remember prior year's returns. E-filing is wonderful. We get our tax refunds so much quicker. Know there are other choices for tax preparation software, but (for me) Turbo Tax is the only way to go!
What's great about it: Each year it gets easier to file
What's not so great: Can't read my mind - can you tell I'm desperate for a negative
Pros: I bought or sold investments
