Making it Easier

AN ESPP that reinvested dividends and that was merged with a company in Ireland made for a messy cluster of stock sold statements. But, again TT made it easy.
What's great about it: Made easy work of messy investment paperwork
What's not so great: Cost of state file is too high...
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Every year the estimated tax payments calculation is not straightforward and not easy to find. Needs work.
What's great about it: Easy to use, especially since this is my 5th year
What's not so great: Estimated tax payment calculation is difficult

worse and worse each year

Admittedly, TT has an impossible task keeping up with the monstrosity we call the federal tax code, but the program keeps getting worse and worse. It does NOT accurately import from Quicken either directly or through TXF files. It does NOT recover data from last year from a PDF copy. It does NOT automatically pick up indirect expenses for use of home in businesses, etc. etc. etc. other than producing a clean computer generated digital output, it no longer saves time. REALLY needs a massive overhaul, just like the tax code itself! Good luck!
What's great about it: electronic filing
What's not so great: buggy, cant trust, worse each year

I have used TurboTax for over for nearly 30 years. Taxes by their nature are complex; especially when you have a business or two, but the program and support resources make the preparation and filing as easy as I personally believe is possible -- unless they simply the tax code -- not holding my breath on that one. I would strongly recommend purchasing the audit defense -- negligible price to pay in the event of an audit.
What's great about it: Even a rank amatuer can do complext returns.
What's not so great: There was one type of transaction the program did not accommodate
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Only 1 small issue

I've used Turbo Tax for years, and will continue. With farm income and some special circumstances, it always seems to resolve things and does so easily.
What's great about it: All in all the interview went smoothly including the Farm income
What's not so great: Seemed to get in a long loop acquiring the state forms; but, eventually resolved itself.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

It's an excellent tool for income tax filing. I've learned more about deduction this year.
What's great about it: All the deductions TurboTax guided me to review; price
What's not so great: Repetition it make one go through everything each time when go "back" to edit one item.

I again used Home & Business - my wife gives piano lessons and we donated stocks to our church. I appreciated that everything from last year was pulled in to this year's return wherever feasible. I had a slight problem with donating stocks - since there were many purchase dates, I had to enter various under date acquired. Turbo Tax 'assumed' that these were short term securities without giving me the option to say that they were not. I put in an arbitrary single date several years ago and everything seemed to record fine, but I'm not happy that I couldn't put 'long term' with various acquisition dates.
What's great about it: stepped me through everything
What's not so great: Donating stocks gave me a little problem
