I sold a property a few years ago and it was hard to enter that info then, it hasn't gotten better
What's great about it: I like the software's ease of use except for the sale of a rental property
What's not so great: the sale of a rental property is difficult how to figure how to enter

I accidentally started filling out the business section for a 1099 Misc. and then realized that I'd have to create a business. I tried to delete the information but no matter what I did, it just kept coming back. There is no support for this problem. The support tells you how to delete Schedule C. I followed the directions and it still showed up no matter how I answered the questions! What a PAIN!
What's not so great: 1099 Misc causing one to create a business instead of just claiming it as income bothers me. I absolutely was unable to

I had a difficult time getting to schedule E for my rental business. The normal Q&A flow doesn't take you there.
What's great about it: For the most part fairly straight forward and easy to use
What's not so great: Some things are very difficult to find with out going in the back door.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have been using Turbo Tax since 2007. I find the directions to be easy to follow and really like being able to back up without losing information. I always feel confident that the return is accurate and complete.
What's great about it: Easy, pulls all info from year before, allows you to do multiple returns
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax is very good at doing lots of calculations which always took much longer to do by hand. It also has useful prompts which usually ask relevant questions.
After many years, TurboTax still doesn't know that Maryland residents must pay 110% of the previous year's tax obligation to avoid an underpayment penalty. It thinks that the amount is 100% as it is for most states.
Another problem is that TurboTax won't necessarily prompt for all information. You therefore have to keep track of all of your income and expenses, and check off when each one is used by the software. This way, you can make sure that each number is used exactly once somewhere. If certain numbers end up not being used, you have to figure out where they fit into the TurboTax scheme and access the necessary line of questioning to handle it.
TurboTax also doesn't know how to do Form 706 which is important for retaining the portability exemption for estate tax.
What's great about it: Expertly handles many complex situations accurately.
What's not so great: Keeps getting a few basic points wrong. Sometimes doesn't prompt sufficiently.
