Smooth ride

I've used Turbotax for many years -- it works very well and makes the process as easy as possible.
I am having trouble signing into my account, so Its Deductible didn't download. This is the only technical problem I ran into.
What's great about it: The detailed questions
What's not so great: Hard to find forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Problems caused by IP Pin
on April 7, 2016
Posted by: DBarr1956
I e-filed my return and it was rejected because the IP Pin wasn't included correctly. Now I am back to mailing in an return. Why doesn't Turbo Tax do a better job handling this common requirement?
Why does Turbo Tax ask for the same information many times for the same information about Foreign Accounts?
What's not so great: Why does not Turbo Tax handle the IP Pin better? Why is Turbo Tax asking for the same information many times?

Finally a Flaw

After 20 years of using Turbo Tax, I tried the Home and Business version and discovered a flaw that kept recycling 1099R income and would not let me proceed with the interview. My work around was to complete the 1099R forms from the forms menu until I got to the next category, From then on the process went smoothly.
What's great about it: Easy to use and understand

Larger character option - This would make reading easier.
A special note page to save with tax form to make personal review easier. I spend days doing taxes would like to make notes to myself.

Challenging for Military filing separate state
on April 7, 2016
Posted by: BBCAIL
It was SO MUCH more challenging this year to file our taxes. It probably took me 3 hours longer than last year. This was because Turbotax suggested downloading their software and creating mock federal returns to remedy an issue with the online system. It was not able to separate the individual's information into separate state tax returns after being MFJ for the Federal Return. Last year, someone on the phone was able to talk me through what clicks and steps I needed to take to do this. This year the forum suggestion was to download the software, prepare and file federal jointly, then re-prepare a mock MFS federal return to populate the separate state returns. I spent DOUBLE time on my taxes this year. And was super frustrated by the process. I also now have to print my state returns, and go to the post office to mail them. Not unreasonable, but annoying, considering last year there was a way to do everything in one fell swoop and e-file everything.
What's great about it: Easy to understand
What's not so great: complexities with filing separate state returns
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

South Carolina Retired Military Pay
on April 7, 2016
Posted by: FlyNavy70
TT does not seem to take into account how South Carolina figures the exemption of parts of Military retirement Pay. i.e., if you have a combination of Active Duty and Reserve time, SC does not tax the portion eligible for Reserve Time. There is no dialogue for this in the SC return and there definitely should be. there were many questions on this in the forums.
What's great about it: Figured out how to do this with forum help
What's not so great: Had to manually figure this
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
