Poor handling of Blackstone K-1
on April 6, 2016
Posted by: 53Randy53
Big problems with K-1 Box 16. Tried many attempts to fix an error so I could e-file. Finally after reviewing TT user forums discovered I'm not the only one with the problem. Had to delete the K-1 completely and reenter data w/o entering anything for Box 16. Amounts are trivial...and my refund went down by $1, so it was worth the price to pay to e-file.
Can to support your claim that TT guarantees the greatest refund due to this issue.
What's great about it: Most things...I import lots of financial stuff from payers and Quicken
What's not so great: Terrible handling of K-1s...specifically widely held Blackstone LP

More Intuitive Than Ever
on April 6, 2016

This year is better than ever. Modest layout changes and design make it easier than ever to follow. Explanations, ability to flag pages, and examples have all improved. Not dramatically, but they were pretty good to begin with. As a Realtor, the Home and Business version covers 99% of my activity including rentals & investments.
What's great about it: Well layed out with fairly thorough Explanations
What's not so great: Price too high for audit and e-filing fees
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Very good overall, but the update process was frustrating at times
What's great about it: Fairly easy to complete a comprehensive tax return
What's not so great: There were often issues updating the software as Intuit released new updates
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Whew!! Finally Done!!!

I have used Turbo Tax for years, and prior to that a similar product by Parson's - which later became Turbo Tax.
As my needs have changed Intuit & Turbo Tax have been there for me. We started out with the Basic and have progressed through the Deluxe and Premier and now into the Home and Business Level. In the past, I have even used the Corporation Level.
Once upon a time, I was seduced by that other program (H&R Block) but after trying to enter my numbers, locate the "help" within the program, and screaming repeatedly at my computer screen - I went out and bought what I needed ... Turbo Tax!!!
I love that I am supported and protected with Audit Defense (yes, it is worth the $$) and I feel confident that Turbo Tax checks my returns and makes me fix "errors" before submitting too.
While no one likes or enjoys filling out their tax return - Turbo Tax makes it as easy as possible.
What's great about it: Lead me through everything - especially Schedule C. Made sure I got every little detail!
What's not so great: Several places such as Job Hunting Expenses need to be updated.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Failed
on April 6, 2016

Turbo Tax was much more difficult to use for 2015. The list to go back to a certain area was not detailed enough, so you had to work through an entire section to get to the subsection you needed. There were no instructions for specific forms if you needed detailed instructions. The area for home office expenses was difficult to find, and you had to go through the entire thing if you wanted to add expenses to a particular area. This experience was far below prior Turbo Tax standards.
What's great about it: step by step entry
What's not so great: There was no quick link to instructions for the current form
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
