This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: lots of help; going back between forms and questionnaire
What's not so great: I ran into a few loops where the same sequence of questions kept repeating
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Another tax season another version of turbotax
on April 6, 2016

I have used TurboTax for over 20 years now. Every year, the program has some improvements that make completing this ridiculous task easier. The "easy step" path usually takes care of standard information and common scenarios. I use the Home & Business version, which really assists with the Schedule C. However, every year I need to switch to the "forms" layout to fix an error that TurboTax creates. This year, the program wanted to insert a signature in a state (OK) form I did not need. I always purchase a CD version of the program in case I need to go back to view forms from a previous year, and guess what, this year I needed to go back 10 years after a flood loss! ... Very useful to save the rules from each tax year.
What's great about it: Easy use for uncomplicated taxes
What's not so great: Always a bug somewhere
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments, I moved

Importing Tax Info
on April 6, 2016

Importing data from Ameriprise was only successful for me. My wife and I have different last names so I had to enter her data manually. The program implies that you can log in with your usual user name and password then Turbo Tax will retreive the data. However, that didn't happen. Program went to Ameriprise and retreived my data automatically without having to login to Ameriprise. There needs to be a way to override Turbotax so that you can indeed manually access the data source.

Pretty Good

Overall program is very good. Seems like every year I have a one off situation that requires me to spend a lot of time trying to figure out that could be solved easily if TurboTax provided more info beside you need this form type answer...... This years issue involved the sale of a vehicle used for business and purchasing a new vehicle when it was not a direct trade in.... (I sold the old vehicle on my own) Getting the form filled out was very confusing using TurboTax that took a lot of trial and error to get it right...At least I hope its right but more instructions/explanation would have been very helpful.
What's great about it: For the most part its straight forword
What's not so great: Needs to provide more info/instructions on some of the forms
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Increasingly difficult to use, year to year
on April 6, 2016

I have used Turbo tax for about 10 years. The first time I absolutely loved it, found it was all I could hope for and more.
IN the last few years it seems cumbersome, requires printing REAMS" of paper and I am very uncertain if I have correctly saved anything. Part of this may be the increasingly complexity of the IRS code resulting from the attempts to simplify things. Part of it may be aging computers.
What's great about it: Import stuff from last year well; good format
What's not so great: confusing "saves" not sure how to import info from Brokerge houses.

Worth the Money
on April 6, 2016

I have used TurboTax for over 10 years and have found that it saves me money and gives me the security of knowing that the return was accurate. However, if you have a more involved return with rental property or sales, it helps to have some knowledge of tax forms so you can check any errors you may have made in data entry under the step-by-step method.
All said, I still have more confidence in doing my own returns that to pay an overworked tax accountant and have to spend time checking their work.
What's great about it: Relatively inexpensive; easy step by step data entry
What's not so great: Should have some knowledge of tax forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments
