What's great about it: Always a (mostly) painless process.
What's not so great: Cumbersome working the program in Windows 10. Might be me.?

I keepdetailed records all year and do not feel I need to pay an accountant when I am the one maintaining the records - just putting them together at the end of the year
I do have to say - I thought it was a very nice comment put into Turbo - My mom passed away last year and we had to cash in her IRA's The screen that asked whether it was my own IRA that was cashed in or someone else's. The next question - asked whether it was because of a death. You actually had a comment - Sorry for your loss - I thought that was so nice - didn't have to be written into the program but I have actually told others about that comment being placed into the software - Nice and compassionate - Thanks
What's great about it: I have control over my taxes
What's not so great: Can't think of any except for the packages they recommend at the end about Audit and being represented - have declined -

I've used Turbo Tax for many years with great success. I found this year's program to be the best yet. Very thorough and easy to use. I found the import function to work particularly well this year.
What's great about it: Covers all the bases. Easy to use.
What's not so great: None

Overall Good

Oil and Gas Lease Rents in interview is not real clear and ended up asking me about real estate and how many days rented, etc.. Finally figured it out on my own with online Turbotax help.
Otherwise it has been good experience and I have a good understanding of what gets put where.
What's great about it: Love the ability to go between step-by-step and forms to see where TurboTax puts things.
What's not so great: The Schedule E for Oil and Gas lease rents interview could be more clear.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Fed great, CA state not so much
on April 5, 2016

The CA return did not take into account my Non-Residence status (foreign residence for entire year 2015) from my Federal return. Option to revert to a CA 540NR (non-resident) form was not provided.
The CA return indicated a $17K tax due, when in fact I should be receiving a $2-3K refund.
This happened last year also and I mistakenly filed the CA return and had to pay $20K in taxes I shouldn't have had to pay. Still waiting on THAT refund from the amended 2014 CA return I had to file.
Turbo Tax needs to fix this and revert to 540NR forms when a non-residence status is indicated OR, disable the CA return function and provide instructions of how to file (and a refund for the state tax functions).
What's great about it: Easy path to complete Fed return
What's not so great: California state did not file correctly. Could not use.

Tax Year 2015 - Fed + State
on April 5, 2016

Overall, I am confident about TurboTax and its processes. For the most part, it was very easy to use. And, I appreciated the fact that it took nothing for granted. Looking forward, I hope I can fulfill next year's tax returns even more easily than this year's returns. Thank you Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Most questions were quickly answered.
What's not so great: I often had to "go back" to make sure I made the correct choice.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax for Home & Business STILL has errors
on April 5, 2016
Posted by: BetaTester
The PRO mentioned above has the negative result that what "works" on one screen display does NOT WORK on another.
For example, I REQUEST that ALL DIALOGUE BOXES have the possibility of a "MARK ESTIMATED" flag available. This should also be available at ALL LEVELS of the dialogue boxes. You currently allow the user work at the highest level of the response, i.e. not WITHIN any of the dialogue boxes.
I have been using TurboTax for Mac / TurboTax since about 1977 and remain disappointed at the inability to communicate with the 'users" in the trenches.
What's great about it: relatively consistent over the years
What's not so great: STILL no easy way to inform INTUIT of errors
