Used Turbo Tax for the past 15 years and never looked back,
Easiest way to do taxes that are right.
Now I have friends, family and acquaintances using TT.

2015 tax return

this is my 6th or 7th year at least of using turbo tax. i am by no means an expert on tax law, but this has certainly opened my eyes as to what i can deduct, and what i cannot. it has helped me plan my tax liability for past years to minimize how much i would have to pay at the end of the year. i have always been in a higher tax bracket and had few deductions as my wife and i are empty nesters and the house is paid off. my wife started a home based business this past year and turbo tax easily helped me do the taxes on it easily and efficiently. i have used an accountant in the past and paid them hundreds of dollars, and after i told them not to make a certain mistake that i had previously made, got a letter from the irs wanting the underpayment. no more accountant for me. only turbo tax. even the accountant my wife used for her business only prepared her accounts sufficiently so that she would be forced to use them for the return. we used turbo tax to overcome the obstacles the accountant put in place.
What's great about it: very easy to use and understand
What's not so great: still had to pay uncle sam
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I've been a TurboTax user for almost 20 years. They improve it and streamline it every year, and really make it user friendly. I love how they anticipate questions, too (e.g., "don't worry about that now -- we'll ask about it later"). Honestly, the hardest part is for the user having and gathering all their records in one spot first (sort of a tax "mice en place!"). That's the part that, obviously, TT can't do for you, and what you'd have to do in any case, if you had an accountant do them for you.
Very satisfied TT user. Of course, I'd rather have a much simpler tax code, but we all know that congress loves having them be ridiculously complex to keep us under control. I don't see that changing soon, if ever, so since it's going to be complicated, I'm glad there's TT.
What's great about it: Extremely THOROUGH and detailed.
What's not so great: Not much to not like!

A Small Request
on April 4, 2016

When using "I'll explore on my own", an underpayment penalty automatically showed up on my return. Luckily, I found it before filing. My income mostly occurred in the 4th quarter due to a well timed RMD, so the penalty and interest was completely abated when I went back and completed Form 2210 Schedule AI. I feel that the cross checking that occurs near the end of the software should have notified the user of the impending penalty and inquired as to whether the income was earned unevenly throughout the year.
What's great about it: All calculations performed by program
What's not so great: Need a bit more cross checking for "I'll explore on my own"

I have used this software to file our taxes the last few years. This year it is by far the most complicated.
What's great about it: I finished it before the deadline
What's not so great: More complicated than before
