The only way to go for self-filed returns

I've been using TurboTax to file my taxes for over ten years now. Even with a moderately complex tax situation that includes a rental house, a side "hobby" business, and various stocks, it usually only takes me a few hours to file. Of course, that assumes you've actually saved all your statements and documents from the previous year in a single big paper bag and don't have to search through multiple paper bags of junk for it. ;) The only time I've ever had a problem after filing was the one time I embarassingly forgot to enter a rental income number and got a CP2000 notice from the IRS. In that case, TurboTax allowed me to quickly amend my return and show that I still owed nothing extra, rather than the nearly $5000 they were requesting. That brings up the only real critique I have on TurboTax- there are so many "nooks and crannies" where your entered data could be hiding - or not- and it's very easy to miss something and not realize it til you get that IRS notice a couple of years later. On my wish list would be a better and more comprehensive way to look at an overall line-by-line return summary next to the previous years as a final sanity check to make sure there aren't zeros where you had really meant to put something in.
What's great about it: Fast, easy, and accurate
What's not so great: Only as accurate as what you type into it

What's great about it: Transfer from last year and into the Stat return makes it a snap. Q & A guide is easy.

We Have Used Yearly Since 1992

We have been filing using TurboTax since 1992 and I wouldn't use any other tax application. I use the step by step as I don't know that much about what I should be inputting and I know that this product has all of my bases covered. It's changed over the years and it's much easier now and Turbo Tax has kept up with the government changes.
What's great about it: Step by step questions walk you through all items and comparisons with prior year for each line on the form as you input

Great, But Not Perfect YET

TurboTax is an excellent product/service! It has revolutionized the tax process, and it has greatly empowered the 'average joe.' However, it still has many kinks in the user experience. I'm confident the software is accurate, but its language is often so formal and wordy that you're left scratching your head and wondering if you're committing a crime. Lol. I always sweat UNTIL I hit 'submit.' In the end, it's always fine, but it's still a little nerve-racking. Maybe that's just taxes– period, but I feel like TurboTax gets better and better every year. Each year, the language is a little more casual and understandable. I'd love to see more tax code translate into layman terms. Also, the software's workflow could be streamlined a bit more. I feel like every time I divert off the tried and true path (especially to read ahead or try to gather some context clues about how to answer a section), I end up on a wild goose chase. I'm nine questions back re-answering things, or suddenly I'm double-entering. It just does seem truly intuitive or elegant yet.
This may sound like a harsh review, but I love and endorse the product 100%. I simply want it to get better and better. I've used it for over 5 years now, so I come back time and time again. I believe in the product and what it has the capability to be. Taxes are a tricky beast– period. TurboTax is working to fight that, but there's still some work ahead.
What's great about it: Cheaper and more convenient than going to an agent. Feeling of empowerment.
What's not so great: Still left feeling "iffy." Never certain you did it right.

Turbotax is easy to use

I have been using TurboTax for about 5 years. Depend on it now. Sometimes it is still tricky to navigate. The "Continue" button is always on the second page of my screen and I wish it can be a duplicate "continue' button on the top so I don't need to go to next page to click it.
What's great about it: Easy to use, minimum cost for tax return
What's not so great: navigation could be tricky

Awesome Deduction Found!

TurboTax has been my tax-preparation helper for many years now. It has walked me through 17 years of returns. This year it highlighted a new deduction for Ohio that was a *HUGE* savings for me as a business owner. (It has tried to "help" a few times in the past that ended up being something that didn't apply to my situation, but this year has made up for all the "dead ends" in the past.)
My only real complaint is that it too often requires clicking through the same answers again to get back to the place you bookmarked to fill in an amount later. (Who ever has *all* the data before they start?)
What's great about it: Very thorough
What's not so great: Bookmarks not always exact; too many repeated questions

Very Helpful

Great software that enables you to toggle back and forth from the actual form to the easy steps. You can pace yourself depending on your free time. The program and software assists you with learning about how to file taxes.
What's great about it: Great software that allows you to do a little at a time
What's not so great: Fine for myself, but maybe for those who want someone to do everything it is not for them
