1099 Misc treated as self employment income

It seems that income reported on this form is treated as self employment income even though it is a discretionary bonus income paid once a year only to a retiree because he was paid a similar bonus the last 3 years. He is 91 years old, not worked for 29 years, is not self employed, and therefore should not have to pay self employment tax on that income.

It somewhat unclear for a person just doing this once a year what to do with the form 5498; one of our "payer/investment firms" did send a 1099 form for the roll-over but the tvo others did not. They sent us the 5498 form. I guess if being correct one should enter the 5498 "rollover contribution" as a "contribution" but I did not since I did read the Turbotax blog saying the 5498 was mostly for my own use and it has been forwarded to IRS. However, I hope IRS do not come back to me about this or I'll be disappointed and your rating will plummet to somewhere around 2.5 -3 stars.

Easiest Way to File Taxes !!!

Been using turbo tax for over a decade now. Love it, and wouldn't file my taxes in any other way.
What's great about it: runs through everything for me
What's not so great: lots of extra stuff I don't need - not really a con though

Very Glitchy this Year!

We had several technical issues this year. The forums were helpful though, but it's clear that others are having a volume of similar issues. This is definitely the worst year yet, after 10 years of using this software. During the interview, the language was tougher to understand and unclear in many cases. Our taxes are complex but we always buy the best version.
What's great about it: Similar to previous years
What's not so great: More weird glitches this year. The writers need to have the language reviewed by layman readers.

2016 Tax Preparation

The one difficulty I always have is at the end when a final review is made and the screen indicates an error. I am never able to determine where the error is without considerable research and frustration. If when an error is indicated, you had a way to go directly to that error and correct it, it would be less frustrating.
What's great about it: Very efficient
What's not so great: Form 3554 kept popping up as a required form. Could not delete.
