Difficult

I have used turbo tax either on line or the software for several years. Many of the questions you ask, should be clear to you if you just use past returns. For instance I had no idea if I had a carryover in a couple of areas. So I had to go back to last years tax return and dig for the information. I am still not sure I as accurate but I erred on the side of not having them .
What's great about it: Many of your questions are simple and straight forward
What's not so great: Many things about taxes like depreciation and recovery periods are not understandable

Problem

I had a problem with software halfway through entry. program tried to load win per release engine and this unable to load, froze my turbo tax shortcut making it impossible to enter program. Finally had to go through back door into program. this appeared to work.

Needs improvement on reporting college costs

Overall this is an excellent program that I've used for many years. However, the program does not provide good guidance when it comes to reporting college costs and expenses. My wife and I have two daughters, both in college, both required to file their own returns because of income earned in summer jobs. Both are still reported as dependents on my return. The program did not provide good guidance on whose return the various 1099-Q and 1098-T forms should be reported. Searching the help files in TurboTax as well as online, outside the program, produced completely contradictory answers. TurboTax needs better linkages between returns when the same program, on the same machine, is used to produce tax returns both for the parents and for college-age dependents of the parents.
What's great about it: Overall an excellent program
What's not so great: Very confusing on handling 1099-Qs and 1098-Ts

I used both TurboTax Home & Business and TurboTax Business.
1. TurboTax Home & Business.
a. Worked fine.
b. After review, omissions were found. When information requested, there was no context of what forms or related information were involved.
2. TurboTax Business.
a. My main issue is that TurboTax Business is not available for Apple Macintosh computer, which required me to set up the Bootcamp side of the Mac, and purchase Windows 10 in order to use TurboTax Business.
b. Program worked fine, once installed.

I found entering income vs Misc. 1099s to be very confusing. Finally went to the forms and entered info myself. Turbo Tax use to be better than this!! What has happened with your company...you need to get refocused!!!! You are better than this! Federal income detail does not flow well with state returns. What is the point of your software if I have to enter info on the state forms myself? Sorry for roasting you..but you use to be sooo much better!!
What's not so great: More complex than last year...buggy! Needs more work!!!

Problem with this year's edition

We have used TurboTax for years with no problems. But this year's edition did not consistently pick up newly saved versions so we constantly had to recheck it and in 2 cases, re-enter previously entered data. At first, we thought it was us, but we were very careful and it happened again twice. I am very disappointed with TurboTax this year
What's great about it: mostly easy to use
What's not so great: kept reverting to previously saved copy

CPA Personalized Service!!!

I had a complicated case. I was assisted by many professionals and ultimately by an all star CPA expert at no extra charge.
He called me twice, one very early in the morning before my work hours to finalize the report and making sure I could file on time. Stellar service!
