I have now used Turbo Tax Home & Business for about 8 years and it improves an already user friendly and accurate program each year. Well worth the money.
What's great about it: Works great for personal, self employed and royalty incomes.

Turbo Tax Mkes filing easy
on March 26, 2016

I ahve tried other programs, but returned to TurboTax for the ease and consistency of use. Now I don't even look at other brands. I like that I can easily go back to re-look at specific areas without having to go through everything. I also appreciate the review at the end, although I have had times when I have changed something and it doesn't recognize the change. This year I though it was odd on the state return that the question that asked for the amount of assistance (SSI etc.) would not let me enter o, but accepted a blank.
What's great about it: Easy to follow guidance with explanations where needed
What's not so great: I still have to pull together all the receipts and keep records

For us Macintosh users, it would be very convenient if you were to produce a Professional version that can cover LLC returns (form 1065, etc.)

kept jamming up

I have been using turbo tax for about 10 years. This year has been a horrible experience. The program would go into calculating mode and never stop.
Was forced to save it, then force close, then restart. this happened about 10 time's. I hope you fix this, I will not be not be purchasing next year, unless you get back to me about this.

Turbotax not incompliance with NYS law.
on March 26, 2016

Because I more than 3 sources of Foreign Tax Credits, Turbotax would not let me e-file my Federal return. No problem. I can mail it.
But then, because I am not e-filing my Federal return, turbotax would not let me e-file my New York State return. No problem, I can mail it.
But then when I try to print the NYS return, I get a message that by NYS law, I must efile my return.
When I called Turbotax they suggested I try to use NYS' free tax program.
In that case, why would I buy Turbotax. Turbotax should bring their program into compliance, or should more publicly advertise that their program does not comply with NYS tax filing.
What's not so great: software not written to comply with NYS law.

Missed import
on March 26, 2016
Posted by: TownieBrisbane
This was very frustrating. TurboTax did not make it clear it had not successfully imported by prior years taxes. It wasn't obvious that it had not imported properly until I had put several days of work into the return. There was no way to import at this stage. This means I had to re-enter all my 8606, business loss, prior years return, etc. I think there may be key pieces of information still missing. (My wifes 8606, for instance.) Please make it clear in the future whether the import has been successful or allow the import to occur AFTER the return has started.
What's great about it: Good job on some complex taxes
What's not so great: Did not import my previous returns

Good but one big problem
on March 26, 2016

Overall, I thought the 2015 Home and Business version of TurboTax did a good job. I have a fairly complicated situation do to my wife having her own small business, numerous investments including multiple partnerships that issue K-1's, and many itemized deductions. It took me about 16 hours to prepare our return, but it was all fairly straight-forward. I didn't do it all in one day, so at one point I came back to it after a two-week pause. I thought I had not yet imported my wife's brokerage 1099, so I did that and got no warning that it was a duplicate download. That failure caused me to come up with a tax bill in the end of about $800 owed. Fortunately, I caught the error when I was looking at the Two Year Comparison and noticed that our dividends total seemed rather high. Once I deleted my wife's duplicate dividends, we came up with a bottom-line refund of over $900!
What's great about it: Easy to use, even with some complex K-1 info to enter
What's not so great: No warning of duplicate data import
Pros: I bought or sold investments
