Sooo Easy!

I have used TurboTax for over a decade!. It makes it so easy when the previous year information automatically enters and you can compare with last year as you are going through. Sometimes, I don't like the fact of the running amount showing on top with how much your owe. It gives you a heart attack. But then, BAM, the deductions start adding in and BIG refund! I would rather not see the amount on top until it is all done. Love Turbo Tax though!!!
What's great about it: Step by step with easy questions and tutorials
What's not so great: Pricey for the Business return

easy file

Using turbo tax makes it easier to file my taxes. I am not a cpa and like saving the money from having someone else file them for us. I also like the risk estimator on audit as it puts me at ease that I have answered all the questions.
What's great about it: walks me through the returns... transfers to state automatically
What's not so great: dont understand the flow of forms

Get er done- through but not customer service easy

A) Like any project, *a few words of simple advise to customers in what figures to calculate; *an index of what information to be filled in where; *a phone number of informed company rep for tech questions; *in the bus/home version there are several areas for optional fill-ins and should be pointed out rather than worry the client/customer.
B) My bus/home version "looped in calculations mode" for 30minutes twice before I opted out and rebooted. poor construction of data flow.
C) At 11pm I finished and was aborted from filing as your company closed down at 9pm. I finished the next day with a simple payment for state filing. Surely this is a simple transaction that could have been done round the clock?

What's great about it: has all the areas needed to fill in if you have prepared figures
What's not so great: poor presentation. Learning curve was extremely vexing.

Needs some work on responsiveness and graphics

Additional work is needed for popup screens used to select forms for printing. Selection options did not appear on my terminal. I had to look for links by moving cursor until selection spot was indicated.
Access to command line options was not responsive. Had to wait until software finally realized that the cursor was hovering on a command line option before the command options appeared.
Perhaps retrieving the graphics option used several years ago would resolve these problems.
What's great about it: Works for my needs. Have used product for years.
What's not so great: Each new version suffers from popup option and menu command access.

Could use some improvement

I didn't like that I had to use the downloaded version (Home & Business) of the software to create 1099's on your quick forms. I like the online version because I don't have a huge hard drive and it takes a lot to have on my computer. Plus each time I had to go in and make changes, it took a while for the program to load everything in. Probably because I don't have lots of memory! I also found it hard to compare my last few years because I did 2014 online and 2013 I believe was downloaded too. I would like a more seamless transition, which is why I really liked the online version better.
What's great about it: Easy to follow
What's not so great: Cannot do online version of Home & Business and create 1099's.

DETAIL MORE INFO IF FILING FOR DECEASED PERSON

1. Who signs? Does one sign? Whose name?
2. If refund, the "Go To" answers are helpful.
3. On the other hand, if you owe the govt in the name of the decedent, the air gets murky on Turbo in the Q&A sections. It would make sense to tell at outset that you recommend NOT e-filing and WHY.
4. Give SPECIFIC instructions right off the bat on which of several lines to make modifications: Put "in care of" for refund; why some have to file 1310 and some don't; have a box (for Turbo only) that states "Decedent," to give Turbo direction that will later help us filers.
5. You say that some states REQUIRE efiling federal and state at the same time, but what if you do not have to file (specifically, I do not have to file for deceased parent who moved from NY; furthermore, I do not have to file for her in NH--where she moved--because we have no income taxes and she had no dividends or interest).
6. In Life Changes, below on this page, how about adding "Death in the Family" and, note that I am responding for my mother, not me.....rest left blank.
Finally, Death is a traumatic experience and for those of us left to clean up everything including taxes, please continue your good work of "making this easy." Thanks.

What's not so great: When someone dies, a little more info would help

The Maximizer

This program was much easier to navigate than I imagined. I felt like it was very patient with me, which is what I needed to get to the end process. Thank you for allowing me to be an independent achiever!
What's great about it: The flags were extremely helpful, I could keep going and go back; no lost data and I could always make corrections;
What's not so great: Sometimes it was difficult to follow the answers when I used the help center
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
