Turbo Tax

My daughter started college last fall. What a nightmare of forms! I would have never been able to figure this out on my own. I like the way everything is checked and rechecked.
What's not so great: I would like to have a phone number to contact a live person. Instead I spent an hour on hold with the IRS.

Pleased with outcome

I have used TurboTax for several years and the software is well written and fairly easy to follow in most cases. I keep detailed records for my taxes and all tax related items are placed in a folder throughout the year. With all the information at hand, TurboTax just makes it fall in place for filing with confidence.
What's great about it: TurboTax adds a level of confidence and understanding of our complicated Income Tax preparations. Detailed Questions Ex
What's not so great: There are always some questions that are not very clear.

2015 Turbor Tax Could do better

Turbo Tax did not print out form 8606 with my 1040 Federal return. Must be filed ! I had to go and find it/print it. Also - Hard to go back and change things, in fact, I had to start a new return to erase some input. Also - difficult to find where to put things - search did not help. Had to find out where to put 1099 K and turbo tax took me all over the place ! Ugh !. I have been using this product for many years but maybe it's time for a change. Don't like the difficulty I'm having with this years return.
What's great about it: Inexpensive
What's not so great: Have to know something about taxes in order to include ALL Forms

Streamlined tax filing

Solid performer year after year, but...

Tried other tax prep software especially after Turbo Tax's snafu on removing forms from versions to catch a quick buck. But I came back because it's the easiest and most thorough. But over the years, it's become bloated with offers. And now, annoyingly, it forgets where you saved last when you update the program. That's was one of the most annoying items in one of their competitor's products. So not sure why they introduced this "feature" into TT. HINT! That's annoying!
What's great about it: Works. Easy to go from interview to forms and back
What's not so great: after every program update, TT "forgets" where you left off last. It did NOT used to do this.
